Crop plants are severely affected by heavy metals (HMs), leading to food scarcity and economical loss. Lead (Pb) is outsourced by use of lead-based fertilizers, batteries, mining, smelting and metal processing. It significantly reduces growth, development and yield of crops cultivated on contaminated sites.

Yet, such management practices may cause these populations to inadvertently evolve in ways that have consequence on their invasiveness. To test this idea, we conducted a two-step field mesocosm experiment; we evolved genetically diverse populations of the duckweed to targeted removal management and then tested the impact of that evolution in replicated invasions into experimental resident communities.

The examination of wastewater and effluents flowing into receiving water bodies is crucial for identifying pollutant sources and implementing scenarios to reduce them. In this study, QUAL2kw was used to identify, assess, and predict the pollutant load of a drainage canal located 6 km away from Anzali Wetland. Initially, the model was calibrated and validated with data collected in 2017.

Foundational techniques in molecular biology-such as cloning genes, tagging biomolecules for purification or identification, and overexpressing recombinant proteins-rely on introducing non-native or synthetic DNA sequences into organisms. These sequences may be recognized by the transcription and translation machinery in their new context in unintended ways. The cryptic gene expression that sometimes results has been shown to produce genetic instability and mask experimental signals.

As the third largest source of energy in addition to carbohydrates and proteins, lipids provide the body with more than twice as much energy as carbohydrates and proteins and are the accumulated "fuel bank" of the body. They are widely stored in animals, plants and microorganisms and are effectively extracted for dietary use by improved and novel technologies. Under the pressure of the current environment, we should immediately look for new strategies to improve or develop dietary lipids that are compatible with the development of the future food industry, in order to mitigate the environmental and climatic degradation caused by the lipid-producing activities of the animal husbandry industry, to avoid the contradiction between the demand for high quality of human beings and the strain on the resources, and to reduce the health risks caused by saturated fats and trans-fats in meat products.
