Membrane fouling from dispersed droplets during water/oil separation undermines performance and limits long-term use. Additionally, there is an urgent need for flame-retardant fibrous membranes capable of purifying high-temperature polluted oils. Inspired by the binary structure of taro leaves, this study introduces a novel fibrous membrane with both antifouling and flame-retardant properties for water/oil treatment.

The development of green and cost-effective biomass adsorbents is necessary for removing large amounts of dyes from wastewater. In this study, polyurethane prepolymers were synthesized using polycaprolactone diol (OH-PCL-OH), isophorone diisocyanate, and 2,2-dihydroxymethylpropionic acid, which were subsequently dispersed in aqueous carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) solution to produce waterborne polyurethane (WPU)-CMCS porous materials. The adsorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), thermogravimetric (TGA) and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP).

Background: Mastopexy combined with implant placement is a complex cosmetic surgery due to the dual nature of the procedure. Various mammoplasty techniques and implant types add to its intricacy. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an internal breast lift in correcting pseudoptosis, grade 1 breast ptosis, and asymmetries, thereby offering a safer alternative with reduced morbidity and avoiding the creation of an inverted T scar.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of persistent organic compounds widely detected in the environments. Due to their chemical stability, physical adsorption has emerged as one of the most promising techniques for remediating PFAS-containing wastewater, while some newly synthesized functional absorbents in powder form suffer from separation issues. Inspired by mussel biology, we have successfully synthesized a porous spongy absorbent termed aminated polyurethane (PU-PDA-PANI) with over 99.

Plastics, as synthetic polymers, are emerging contaminants that can harm organisms and ecosystems. This study investigates the presence of microplastics in sediments of two rivers in western Cuba, assessing their temporal variability, diversity, and characterizing the types of microplastics in these ecosystems. Additionally, the study examines the relationship between microplastic concentrations, the extracellular enzymatic activity of benthic microbial communities, and nutrient levels in sediments.
