This article is a retrospective report of the outcome of 43 unilateral unstable, vertically displaced pelvic ring injuries using a reduction frame which is attached to the OR table, along with special instruments allowing "unlocking" of the fracture to facilitate reduction. The frame utilized by the authors is a modification of the Starr Frame® (Starr Frame, LLC, Richardson), which has been refined to be lower profile, more accessible, and more versatile in pin placement. They have also reported a new attachment for the frame to apply lateral traction to the fractured hemipelvis. The authors provide a detailed description of the techniques involved in securing the patient to the frame and table, and then the stepwise application of multiplanar tractions to the fractured hemipelvis. Their technique of unlocking closed reduction (UCRT) involved controlled application of lateral distraction to disimpact the compressed or overlapping fractured bone surfaces, followed by distal and anterior traction through a femoral supracondylar pin, and direct manipulation of the hemipelvis through a supracetabular "LC-2" half pin. Reduction is followed by percutaneous fixation using 7.3-mm cannulated screws across the posterior ring and either external fixation or subcutaneous supra-acetabular pedicle screw internal fixation device (INFIX) anteriorly.

Wide dynamic range compression (WDRC) and noise reduction both play important roles in hearing aids. WDRC provides level-dependent amplification so that the level of sound produced by the hearing aid falls between the hearing threshold and the highest comfortable level of the listener, while noise reduction reduces ambient noise with the goal of improving intelligibility and listening comfort and reducing effort. In most current hearing aids, noise reduction and WDRC are implemented sequentially, but this may lead to distortion of the amplitude modulation patterns of both the speech and the noise.

Spatial variations in urban woodland cooling between background climates.

Urban woodland composition and configuration have strong associations with land surface temperatures (LST), but the evidence is contradictory due to different spatial scales, regional climate zones, woodland types and urban contexts. In this study, we analyse associations between urban woodland and LST within and between five cities in different Köppen climate zones. Our consistent methodology is framed around local climate zones and conducted at a fine spatial scale.

RNA interference (RNAi) is a promising method for pest control; however, some studies have showed that the degradation of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) by dsRNA-degrading nucleases (dsRNases) is one of the factors that may reduce RNAi efficiency in lepidopteran insects. In this study, we cloned two dsRNase genes named CmdsRNase5 and CmdsRNase6 from rice leaffolder Cnaphalocrocis medinalis, a notorious insect pest of rice. Open reading frames (ORFs) of CmdsRNase5 and CmdsRNase6 are 1317 and 1185 bp in length, encoding 438 and 394 amino acids, respectively.
