Poly(vinylidene fluoride) was grafted with maleic anhydride through reactive extrusion by using diisopropyl benzene peroxide as an initiator and 9-vinyl anthracene as a stabilizer. Effects of various parameters on grafting degree were investigated including the amounts of monomer, initiator and stabilizer. The maximum extent of grafting achieved was 0.74%. The graft polymers were characterized using FTIR, water contact angle, thermal, mechanical and XRD studies. Improved hydrophilic and mechanical properties were observed for graft polymers.

Synergistic photodynamic/photothermal therapy (PDT/PTT) can be used to target cancer cells by locally generating singlet oxygen species or increasing temperature under laser irradiation. This approach offers higher tumor ablation efficiency, lower therapeutic dose requirements, and reduced side effects compared to single treatment approaches. However, the therapeutic efficiency of PDT/PTT is still limited by the low oxygen levels within the solid tumors caused by abnormal vasculature and altered cancer cell metabolism.

The rapid emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria represents a critical global health threat, underscoring the urgent need for alternative antimicrobial strategies beyond conventional antibiotics. In this study, we report the synthesis of novel biobased antimicrobial polymers bearing quaternary ammonium salts, derived from sustainable feedstocks, maleic anhydride, dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, and furfurylamine. The functional tricyclic oxanorbornene lactam monomer is polymerized via ring opening metathesis polymerization, yielding well-defined polymers with controlled molar masses and low dispersity.

Poly(styrene--maleic anhydride) (SMAnh) is a petroleum-based copolymer with desirable properties that afford utility in both industrial and academic fields. The reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT)-mediated polymerization of the bioderived comonomers, indene and itaconic anhydride, was explored using three chain transfer agents with varying activity, and generally well-controlled ( < 1.40) polymerizations were observed.

Cluster luminescent materials (CLgens) with nonconjugated structures have attracted considerable attention. However, their low quantum yield and limited emission wavelengths, which are confined to the blue-green spectrum, continue to restrict their applicability. In this study, maleic anhydride polymer chains were modified with -tristyrylene-1,2-diamine (TPM-NH), creating a secondary donor-acceptor structure through freely rotatable phenyl groups and amino-anhydride interactions.

Poly(lactic) (PLA) is a biodegradable material obtained from renewable resources and is recognized as a safe biopolymer by the Food and Drug Administration. PLA expresses excellent mechanical and moldability attributes nonetheless poor elasticity/functionality limits its widespread utilization. One approach to compensate for this is chemical surface modification through free radical grafting with small organic molecules like maleic anhydride (MA).
