Cytochromes P450 are ancient enzymes diffused in organisms belonging to all kingdoms of life, including viruses, with the largest number of P450 genes found in plants. The functional characterization of cytochromes P450 has been extensively investigated in mammals, where these enzymes are involved in the metabolism of drugs and in the detoxification of pollutants and toxic chemicals. The aim of this work is to present an overview of the often disregarded role of the cytochrome P450 enzymes in mediating the interaction between plants and microorganisms. Quite recently, several research groups have started to investigate the role of P450 enzymes in the interactions between plants and (micro)organisms, focusing on the holobiont Grapevines live in close association with large numbers of microorganisms and interact with each other, regulating several vine physiological functions, from biotic and abiotic stress tolerance to fruit quality at harvest.

Pathogenic variants in cytochrome oxidase assembly factor 5 (COA5), a proposed complex IV (CIV) assembly factor, have been shown to cause clinical mitochondrial disease with two siblings affected by neonatal hypertrophic cardiomyopathy manifesting a rare, homozygous missense variant (NM_001008215.3: c.157G>C, p.

The reduction of oxygen to water is crucial to life under aerobic conditions. Cytochrome bd oxidases perform this reaction with a very high oxygen affinity. Members of this protein family are solely found in prokaryotes and some archaea playing an important role in bacterial virulence and antibiotic resistance.

Specialized metabolites are molecules involved in plants' interaction with their environment. Elucidating their biosynthetic pathways is a challenging but rewarding task, leading to societal applications and ecological insights. Furanocoumarins emerged multiple times in Angiosperms, raising the question of how different enzymes evolved into catalyzing identical reactions.

The phenomenon of electron transfer between cytochrome and amicyanin is a prevalent chemical process found in biological systems. In this study, we used MD simulation to explore the dynamic conformational changes and studied the possibilities of different electron transport pathways. Along with DFT computations, we employed the non-equilibrium green function for identifying electron transport channels within the system.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are toxic organic compounds produced during the incomplete combustion of organic materials and are commonly found in the environment due to anthropogenic activities such as industrial and vehicular emissions as well as natural sources, mainly volcanic eruptions and forest fires. PAHs are well known for their bioaccumulative capacity and environmental persistence, raising concerns due to their adverse effects on human health, including their carcinogenic potential. In recent years, bioremediation has emerged as a promising, effective, and sustainable solution for the degradation of PAHs in contaminated environments.
