Background: Purtscher-like retinopathy (PLR) is a rare retinal microangiopathy with unclear pathogenesis. Paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) is an optical coherence tomography (OCT) sign proposed in recent years, which is characterized by infarction of the middle layer of the retina. This article reported a rare case of PRL and PAMM probably related to improper antihypertensive drug use in a middle-aged male.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to investigate the clinical and retinal imaging features of Chinese patients with acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) linked to COVID-19, indicating an increase in cases associated with the pandemic.
  • The study involved thorough retinal imaging assessments and revealed that many patients experienced a short interval between fever onset and eye symptoms, with a majority showing bilateral effects.
  • Notable retinal changes included hemorrhages and specific lesions that differ from typical presentations of AMN, highlighting potential biomarkers for microcirculation issues in COVID-19 patients.*

Background: Hyperreflective foci (HRF) are biomarkers in detection of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Presence of HRF on spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) can give a correlation with visual acuity change and grades of DR. Purpose of this study is to determine the presence, location, and role of HRF in the retina of DM patients with and without retinopathy.
