Neuroblastic Tumor Recurrence Associated With Opsoclonus Myoclonus Ataxia Syndrome Relapse a Decade After Initial Resection and Treatments. | LitMetric
Opsoclonus myoclonus ataxia syndrome (OMAS) is a rare disorder that causes significant neurodevelopmental sequelae in children. Approximately half of pediatric OMAS cases are paraneoplastic, typically associated with localized neuroblastic tumors. Since early persistence or relapse of OMAS symptoms is common even after tumor resection, OMAS relapses may not routinely prompt reevaluation for recurrent tumors. We report a 12-year-old girl with neuroblastic tumor recurrence associated with OMAS relapse a decade after initial treatment. Providers should be aware of tumor recurrence as a trigger for distant OMAS relapse, raising intriguing questions about the role of immune surveillance and control of neuroblastic tumors.
We report a case in which a giant hepatic cyst located at the hepatic hilum and compressing the inferior vena cava was safely treated laparoscopically with careful attention to hemodynamics in a difficult fenestrated resection in a patient with severe kyphosis. The anatomic location of the cyst was evaluated preoperatively via 3D reconstruction of computed tomography images to identify a site where safe fenestrated resection could be performed. This was challenging because the surgical field was narrow due to the presence of severe kyphosis, and there was a risk of damage to surrounding organs during fenestrated resection.
Survival quality of glioblastoma (GBM) patients remains undesirable despite the aggressive multimodal treatment methods implemented, which are strongly associated with tumor recurrence after surgical resection. Self-renewal and strong tumourigenic capacity of glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) at the narrow margin of the incision are essential factors driving tumor secondary strikes. Prepatellar bursitis is a common cause of anterior knee pain. We present an unusual case of massive bilateral traumatic haemorrhagic prepatellar bursitis managed with surgical excision and describe our operative findings. The patient presented with large bilateral knee swellings which had been present for six years following a fall onto both knees.
