A 20-year-old Quarter horse gelding was referred for evaluation of an acute onset non-weight-bearing right forelimb lameness. Marked soft tissue swelling was apparent over the right scapula and shoulder region; no crepitus was palpable. Purpose: To identify risk factors for tendon attrition after volar locking plate fixation of distal radius fractures.
Methods: We prospectively assessed attrition of the flexor pollicis longus tendon at volar plate removal in 127 hands in 126 patients. We also evaluated preoperative lateral wrist radiographs, sonographs, and crepitus with flexor pollicis longus tendon motion and compared the demographic and radiographic characteristics of patients with and without tendon attrition.

It was found that "impingement syndrome" is characteristic for periarthritis humeroscapularis simplex. Active and passive movement restriction of the shoulder was frequently observed in periarthritis humeroscapularis simplex acuta; passive one greater than 50% was typical for capsulitis adhesiva.
