Background: An intensive care unit (ICU) diary provides a powerful and moving account of a patient's journey through critical care.
Aim: The primary goal of this research was to explore the qualitative perceptions of general ICU survivors toward the ICU diary, which was completed during their hospital stay and reintroduced to them during a follow-up visit 6 months after ICU discharge.
Setting: An Italian general ICU with structured follow-up and an ICU diary program.

I had my eyes set on DNA replication research when I took my first molecular biology course in graduate school. My election to the National Academy of Sciences came just when I was retiring from active research. It gives me an opportunity to reflect on my personal journey in eukaryotic DNA replication research, which started as a thought experiment and culminated in witnessing the determination of the cryoelectron microscopic structure of the yeast replisome in the act of transferring histone-encoded epigenetic information at the replication fork.
