Two pairs of side-chain epimeric 3-methoxycarbonyl-dihydrofuran-4-ones with structures purported for thiocarboxylics C and gregatins G , isolated from Penicillium sp. Sb62, were synthesised for the first time in five steps and 17-25 % yield. Key steps were a Suzuki cross-coupling, a Yamaguchi esterification, and a base-induced Knoevenagel-type condensation. The optimum protecting group for the 10-OH group in the dienyl side-chain, orthogonal to necessary protecting groups on O-10 of the furanone, was found to be t-butyldiphenylsilyl (TBDPS). The specific rotations of our synthetic products deviated markedly from those reported for the natural isolates. In contrast to the isolates, the synthetic products were not active against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Tabular data, spreadsheets organized in rows and columns, are ubiquitous across scientific fields, from biomedicine to particle physics to economics and climate science. The fundamental prediction task of filling in missing values of a label column based on the rest of the columns is essential for various applications as diverse as biomedical risk models, drug discovery and materials science. Although deep learning has revolutionized learning from raw data and led to numerous high-profile success stories, gradient-boosted decision trees have dominated tabular data for the past 20 years.

Poplar transformation with variable explant sources to maximize transformation efficiency.

Sci Rep

Biosciences Division, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN, USA.

For decades, Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated plant transformation has played an integral role in advancing fundamental and applied plant biology. The recent omnipresent emergence of synthetic biology, which relies on plant transformation to manipulate plant DNA and gene expression for novel product biosynthesis, has further propelled basic as well as applied interests in plant transformation technologies. The strong demand for a faster design-build-test-learn cycle, the essence of synthetic biology, is, however, still ill-matched with the long-standing issues of high tissue culture recalcitrance and low transformation efficiency of a wide range of plant species especially food, fiber and energy crops.

Heterocyclic compounds are increasingly used in medicinal chemistry because they are the main components of many biological processes and materials. Benzimidazole remains the core center of the heterocyclic chemical group, with essential traits such as six-five-member connected rings and two nitrogen atoms at the 1,3 position in a six-membered benzene and five-membered imidazole- fused ring system. Molecules with benzimidazole derivatives serve important functions as therapeutic agents and have shown excellent results in clinical and biological research.

Electronic address:

N-propanol is one of the higher alcohols, a moderate amount of n-propanol is beneficial for the harmony of the liquor body, whereas excessive or repeated intake will lead to discomfort and pose significant harm to human health. In actual production process of Jiangxiangxing Baijiu, the n-propanol content of the base baijiu in first round (FR) is far higher than that of second round (SR). Nevertheless, the formation mechanism and the key n-propanol producing microbials remain unclear and this limits the quality control of baijiu fermentation.

Macrocyclic polymer materials exhibit excellent selectivity and adsorption performance in pollutant adsorption due to unique host-guest recognition. Herein, three kinds of calixarene polymers (C4P, C6P and C8P) were synthesized through Sonogashira reaction, and were characterized through H NMR, FT-IR, SEM, and TEM. The water contact angle experiments revealed that three kinds of calixarene polymers were highly hydrophobic, and they all exhibited high enrichment efficiency for weak polar chloro-substituted benzene compounds (chlorobenzene, o-chlorotoluene, p-dichlorobenzene and o-dichlorobenzene) and BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes).
