Interface engineering in complex oxide superlattices is a growing field, enabling manipulation of the exceptional properties of these materials, and also providing access to new phases and emergent physical phenomena. Here we demonstrate how interfacial interactions can induce a complex charge and spin structure in a bulk paramagnetic material. We investigate a superlattice (SLs) consisting of paramagnetic LaNiO (LNO) and highly spin-polarized ferromagnetic LaCaMnO (LCMO), grown on SrTiO (001) substrate. We observed emerging magnetism in LNO through an exchange bias mechanism at the interfaces in X-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity. We find non-symmetric interface induced magnetization profiles in LNO and LCMO which we relate to a periodic complex charge and spin superstructure. High resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy images reveal that the upper and lower interfaces exhibit no significant structural variations. The different long range magnetic order emerging in LNO layers demonstrates the enormous potential of interfacial reconstruction as a tool for tailored electronic properties.

A highly effective method for creating a supramolecular metallogel of Ni(II) ions (NiA-TA) has been developed in our work. This approach uses benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid as a low molecular weight gelator (LMWG) in DMF solvent. Rheological studies assessed the mechanical properties of the Ni(II)-metallogel, revealing its angular frequency response and thixotropic behaviour.

The faithful charging of amino acids to cognate tRNAs by aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (AARSs) determines the fidelity of protein translation. Isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase (IleRS) distinguishes tRNA from tRNA solely based on the nucleotide at wobble position (N34), and a single substitution at N34 could exchange the aminoacylation specificity between two tRNAs. Here, we report the structural and biochemical mechanism of N34 recognition-based tRNA discrimination by Saccharomyces cerevisiae IleRS (ScIleRS).

Discontinuous solid-solid phase transformations play a pivotal role in determining the properties of rechargeable battery electrodes. By leveraging operando Bragg Coherent Diffractive Imaging (BCDI), we investigate the discontinuous phase transformation in LiNiMnO within an operational Li metal coin cell. Throughout Li-intercalation, we directly observe the nucleation and growth of the Li-rich phase within the initially charged Li-poor phase in a 500 nm particle.

A natural water sampled after a sand filtration step and spiked with four organic micropollutants (metolachlor ESA, metolachlor NOA, desethylatrazine and metaldehyde) was treated by a loose nanofiltration membrane. The Steric, Electric, and Dielectric model (SEDE model) was then used to predict the separation performance of the membrane towards the various ions and micropollutants in the water matrix in order to study the transport mechanism of ions and micropollutants through the membrane. The SEDE model was found to satisfactorily predict the rejection sequences of inorganic anions and cations, as well as neutral (desethylatrazine and metaldehyde) and charged (metolachlor ESA and metolachlor NOA) micropollutants.

The increasing prevalence of dental pathogens and oral cancer calls for new therapeutic agents. Nanoparticle (NPs) based tumor therapy enables precise targeting and controlled drug release, improving anti-cancer treatment efficacy while reducing systemic toxicity. Zinc oxide NPs (ZnO NPs) are notable in nanomedicine for their exceptional physicochemical and biological properties.
