All present commercial colors are based on pigments. While such traditional pigment-based colorants offer a commercial platform for large-volume and angle insensitiveness, they are limited by their instability in atmosphere, color fading, and severe environmental toxicity. Commercial exploitation of artificial structural coloration has fallen short due to the lack of design ideas and impractical nanofabrication techniques. Here, we present a self-assembled subwavelength plasmonic cavity that overcomes these challenges while offering a tailorable platform for rendering angle and polarization-independent vivid structural colors. Fabricated through large-scale techniques, we produce stand-alone paints ready to be used on any substrate. The platform offers full coloration with a single layer of pigment, surface density of 0.4 g/m, making it the lightest paint in the world.

The excessive aggregation of magnetic metal particles and the resulting skin effect tend to cause a serious imbalance in impedance matching, which hinders its application in aerospace and military wave absorption fields. Obviously, effective dispersion configuration and network construction are two practical measures to develop broadband lightweight absorbers. Based on the recycling theme, pomegranate plasma heterostructure regulated one-dimensional (1D) biomass derived microtube networks are achieved through the conversion and utilization of waste Platanus ball fibers.

Massive and massless plasmons in germanene nanosheets.

Atomically thin crystals may exhibit peculiar dispersive electronic states equivalent to free charged particles of ultralight to ultraheavy masses. A rare coexistence of linear and parabolic dispersions yields correlated charge density modes exploitable for nanometric light confinement. Here, we use a time-dependent density-functional approach, under several levels of increasing accuracy, from the random-phase approximation to the Bethe-Salpeter equation formalism, to assess the role of different synthesized germanene samples as platforms for these plasmon excitations.

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Shandong University of Technology, Zibo 255000, PR China; Shandong Industrial Ceramics Research & Design Institute Co., Ltd., Zibo 255000, PR China. Electronic address:

To solve the problem of dispersion of magnetic nanoparticles in ultralight electromagnetic absorption field, checkerboard-like nickel nanoislands/defect graphene aerogel (NIDG) with enhanced surface plasmon resonance was designed and prepared through electrostatic self-assembly method. This special structure successfully overcame the aggregation phenomenon of magnetic metals and built high-density gap regions to enhance surface plasmon resonance. And the NIDG has achieved excellent electromagnetic wave absorption performance in C band.

Rapid Solar Heating of Antimicrobial Ag and CuO Nanostructured Plasmonic Textile for Clean Water Production.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

Solar steam generation is an attractive method to produce clean water, and high steam generation rates have been achieved using nanostructured light absorbers. However, since it usually takes minutes to reach the temperature for steady-state steam generation under solar illumination, a material that responds quickly to intermittent sunlight is strongly desired. Here, we report an unprecedented heating rate in an ultralight freestanding textile consisting of interconnected Ag and CuO nanoparticles.
