Droplet-based microfluidic devices have been used to achieve homogeneous cell encapsulation, but cells sediment in a solution, leading to heterogeneous products. In this technical note, we describe automated and programmable agitation device to maintain colloidal suspensions of cells. We demonstrate that the agitation device can be interfaced with a syringe pump for microfluidic applications. Agitation profiles of the device were predictable and corresponded to device settings. The device maintains the concentration of cells in an alginate solution over time without implicating cell viability. This device replaces manual agitation, and hence is suitable for applications that require slow perfusion for a longer period of time in a scalable manner.

Background: The rising prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI) among older adults, particularly those living in nursing homes (NHs), underscores the need for innovative continence care solutions. The implementation of an unobtrusive sensor system may support nighttime monitoring of NH residents' movements and, more specifically, the agitation possibly associated with voiding events.
Objective: This study aims to explore the application of an unobtrusive sensor system to monitor nighttime movement, integrated into a care bed with accelerometer sensors connected to a pressure-redistributing care mattress.

A home-built apparatus to perform solid phase peptide synthesis (SPPS), assisted by microwave irradiation and heating, is presented. In contrast to conventional SPPS reaction vessels, which drain solvent and byproducts via a frit located at the bottom of the vessel, the presented apparatus employs a gas dispersion tube under vacuum to remove solvent, byproducts, and excess reagents. The same gas dispersion tube supplies nitrogen gas agitation of the SPPS beads during the reaction steps of coupling and deprotection.

Objective: To describe a novel Small Fragment Removal System (SFRS) which is hypothesized to improve stone fragment removal during flexible ureteroscopy in patients with urolithiasis. The SFRS consists of three parts: a Syphon Ureteric Access Sheath (SUAS), a Dual Action Pump (DAP) and an Agitator. This bench assessment aims to assess the SFRS's impact on intra-renal pressure (IRP), irrigant flow rate and stone fragment removal compared to a traditional UAS.

Background: Caregivers of people living with dementia (PLWD) often experience burden based on their care recipients' symptoms of wandering, disorientation, and agitation.
Objective: To examine the utilization and perceived value of technology-based solutions for caregiving among caregivers of PLWD.
Methods: In collaboration with three Texas sites, PLWD and family caregiver dyads were recruited from clinical and community sites to assess the feasibility of a caregiving technology.

Background: Living with a diagnosis of dementia can involve managing certain behavioral and psychological symptoms. Alongside cognitive decline, this cohort expresses a suppression in melatonin production which can negatively influence their alignment of sleep or wake timings with the 24 hour day and night cycle. As a result, their circadian rhythms become disrupted.
