Introduction: Emergence of the Delta variant in 2021 changed the pandemic landscape and led to healthcare surges across the US, despite availability of COVID-19 vaccine. Anecdotal information indicated that the infection prevention and control (IPC) field was changing, but formal assessment was needed.

Methods: Focus groups (6) were conducted with APIC members in November and December, 2021 to elicit infection preventionists' (IP) opinions changes to the IPC field due to the pandemic. Focus groups were audio recorded via Zoom and transcribed. Content analysis was used to identify major themes.

Results: Ninety IPs participated. IPs described multiple changes to the IPC field during the pandemic, including being more involved in policy development, the challenge of transitioning back to routine IPC while still responding to COVID-19, increased need for IPs across practice settings, difficulties in recruiting and retaining IPs, presenteeism in healthcare, and extensive burnout. Participants suggested approaches to improve IPs' wellbeing.

Conclusions: The ongoing pandemic has brought significant changes to the IPC field, including a shortage of IPs just as the field is expanding rapidly. The continued overwhelming workload and stress due to the pandemic has resulted in burnout among IPs and the need for initiatives to improve their wellbeing.

Nanofluidics is a system of fluid transport limited to a nano-confined space, including the transport of ions and molecules. The use of intelligent nanofluidics has shown great potential in energy conversion. However, ion transport is hindered by homogeneous membranes with uniform charge distribution and concentration polarization, which often leads to an undesirable power conversion performance.

Background: Adherence to the proper use of protective personal equipment (PPE) in health care facilities including public hospitals is challenging among sanitation workers(SWs) across the world in general and in developing countries in particular. Despite the emphasis inline up on various policies and guidelines for PPE use implementation, inconsistent use of PPE, disobedience to PPE regulations, negligence, ignorance, discomfort, and lacking infection prevention and control (IPC) practice have been identified as main associated factors. All these and other factors contributing for the non-compliance of PPE practice among SWs within the hospitals in nations with limited resources such as Ethiopia, as well as study regions.

Interpenetrating phase composites (IPCs) are gaining popularity because of their unique topological characteristics, which include their light weight and ability to conduct electricity. Herein, a novel metal‒polymer IPC composed mainly of a 3D nickel foam(NF) at the microscale and a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) matrix are developed. Moreover, a nanonetwork composed of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) bridging the nickel skeleton and PTFE matrix is created within the IPC via a simple impregnation method.

Turing-type nanochannel membranes with extrinsic ion transport pathways for high-efficiency osmotic energy harvesting.

Two-dimensional (2D) nanofluidic channels with confined transport pathways and abundant surface functional groups have been extensively investigated to achieve osmotic energy harvesting. However, solely relying on intrinsic interlayer channels results in insufficient permeability, thereby limiting the output power densities, which poses a significant challenge to the widespread application of these materials. Herein, we present a nanoconfined sacrificial template (NST) strategy to create a crafted channel structure, termed as Turing-type nanochannels, within the membrane.

Background: Adverse childhood experiences are strongly associated with mental disorders in young people. Parenting interventions are available through community health settings and can intervene with adverse childhood experiences that are within a parent's capacity to modify. Technology can minimize common barriers associated with engaging in face-to-face parenting interventions.
