Postharvest waste due to decay of fruits and vegetables negatively affects food security, while at the same time control of decay and therefore waste can be limited because of consumer concerns about use of synthetic chemicals. Use of antagonistic microorganisms is an eco-friendly technique that represents a promising alternative approach to the use of chemical methods. Understanding the interactions between antagonists and the fruit microbiome will enable the discovery of new methods to reduce postharvest waste. This article reviews different microbial agents, fungi, bacteria and yeasts that could control decay. Recent developments in the use of microorganisms for preserving postharvest fruit quality, formulation of effective antagonists, and the commercialization steps are also discussed. Antagonists control decay through either direct or indirect mechanisms while preserving the appearance, flavor, texture and nutritional value of horticultural products. Microorganisms do not fully control pathogens, and therefore they are usually used with other treatments or have their biocontrol ability modified through genetic manipulations. Despite of these limitations, commercialization of biocontrol products based on antagonists with required stability and biocontrol potential is occurring. Biocontrol of postharvest decay and waste agent is promising technology for fruit and vegetable industries. Further study is necessary to better understand mechanisms and increasing efficiency of this method.

Methods: A more electron-deficient nitropyridine was employed as the labeling precursor to facilitate the F-labeling. The radiosynthesis was conducted on an AllinOne synthesis module, and followed by purification via high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Background: Fresh vegetables are commodities that have a high tendency to deteriorate after harvest, causing significant losses in economic and environmental costs associated with plant food loss. Therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate the effects of both un-irradiated (UISA) and irradiated sodium alginate (ISA) as an edible coating for preserving cherry tomato fruits under storage conditions. The FTIR, XRD, TGA, SEM, and TEM were used to characterize the UISA and ISA (25, 50, 75, and 100 kGy), which demonstrated that the alginate polymer was degraded and low molecular-weight polysaccharides were formed as a result of irradiation, particularly with the 100 kGy dose level.

This study constructs virtual vector triangles in multidimensional space to address cooperative control issue in time-varying nonlinear multi-agent systems. The distributed adaptive virtual point and its dynamic equations are designed, with this virtual point, the leader, and the follower being respectively defined as the vertices of the virtual vector triangle. The virtual vector edges, decomposed by vectors into coordinate axis components, are organized to form a closed virtual vector triangle by connecting the three vertices with directed vector arrows that are oriented from the tail to the head.

Despite numerous studies aimed at solving the detrimental dissolution issue of organic electrode materials (OEMs), a fundamental understanding of their dissolution mechanism has not yet been established. Herein, we systematically investigate how changes in electrolyte composition affect the ion-solvent interactions propagating to OEM dissolution by changing the cation. The cyclability of OEM is significantly different by alkali cations, where the OEM with K is stable even after 300 cycles and that with Li is drastically decayed within 100 cycles.
