Unlabelled: Socratic questioning is used to enhance the process of guided discovery in psychotherapy sessions.
Objective: Socratic questioning and guided discovery are defined, and assorted clinical examples are provided.
Methods: The limited research on the impact of Socratic questioning is reviewed and integrated with 30 + years of clinical experience.
Results: The scant research suggests that Socratic questioning significantly reduces depression from one session to the next, particularly for patients with a pessimistic cognitive bias, but there is no research on patient improvements at the end of psychotherapy.
Conclusion: Socratic questions and guided discovery can facilitate sensitivity to issues related to diversity and can be useful in psychotherapy training. The Socratic approach relies on an integration of the research evidence, ancient philosophy, and contemporary cognitive therapy.

Objective: We hypothesized that learning through multiple sensory modalities would improve knowledge recall and recognition in orthopedic surgery residents and medical students.
Design: We developed a virtual study assistant, named Socratic Artificial Intelligence Learning (SAIL), based on a custom-built natural language processing algorithm. SAIL draws from practice questions approved by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and quizzes users through a conversational, voice-enabled Web interface.

Background: Obesity is on the rise globally in adults and children, including in tropical areas where diseases such as dengue have a substantial burden, particularly in children. Obesity impacts risk of severe dengue disease; however, the impact on dengue virus (DENV) infection and dengue cases remains an open question.
Methods: We used 9 years of data from 5940 children in the Pediatric Dengue Cohort Study in Nicaragua to determine whether pediatric obesity is associated with increased susceptibility to DENV infection and symptomatic presentation.

Children and adolescents with conduct problems participate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), either in individual or group format, in view of learning social problem-solving skills that enable them to behave in more independent and situation-appropriate ways. Parents must support their child's learning processes in everyday life and therefore these processes need attention in CBT sessions in which parents and their child participate. The social problem-solving model of CBT previously described (Matthys & Schutter, Clin Child Fam Psychol Rev 25:552-572, 2022; Matthys & Schutter, Clin Child Fam Psychol Rev 26:401-415, 2023) consists of nine psychological skills.

Late-onset psychosis refers to the development of psychotic symptoms after the age of 40 and can encompass various conditions like schizophrenia, mood disorders with psychotic features, and delusional disorder. Non-pharmacological interventions are critically important in older adults with psychosis, especially considering the lack of evidence for the efficacy of antipsychotics and the high risk of side effects. Social isolation is recognized as one of the risks of late-onset psychosis, and interventions to eliminate this risk are becoming increasingly important in Japan, where social isolation among older people is widespread as society ages.
