Vitamin D is a fat-soluble secosteroid, its primary function being regulation of calcium-phosphate homeostasis and maintenance of bone integrity and mineralization. Recently, pleotropic effects of this vitamin have been recognized, including an immunomodulatory role and involvement in normal brain development and functioning.

Background: Vitamin K-dependent γ-glutamic acid carboxylation (Gla) proteins are calcium-binding and membrane-associated, participating in coagulation, bone turnover, and cancer biology. The molecular function of transmembrane proline-rich Gla proteins (PRRGs) remains unexplored.
Methods: Analysis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) datasets, including transcription profiles, clinical data, and tissue microarrays, was conducted to evaluate PRRG1 expression and its clinical relevance.

Thrombospondin-1 (TSP1) contributes to obesity-associated inflammation via activating Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). The regulatory role of vitamin D on this pathway has been suggested. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between TSP1/TLR4 pathway and vitamin D in obese and normal weight subjects with different metabolic phenotypes.

Immunonutrition, which involves the targeted use of specific nutrients to enhance immune function and mitigate inflammation, has recently become a mainstay for both medical and surgical benefits. This review explores the evolution, mechanisms, and clinical applications of immunonutrition, with a focus on essential nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, glutamine, arginine, and vitamins. These immunonutrients modulate immune responses, reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, and support tissue repair.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder marked by dopaminergic neuron degeneration in the substantia nigra. Emerging evidence suggests vitamin D3 (VD) plays a therapeutic role in PD, but its precise molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study employed network pharmacology and bioinformatics to identify VD's hub targets and related pathways.

Drug-resistant epilepsy in pediatric patients is associated with neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. Vitamin D 25-OH exerts neuroprotective effects, while glial cell line- derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-1β (IL-1β) are implicated in the mechanisms of neuroinflammation and epileptogenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between vitamin D 25-OH, IL-1β, and GDNF levels with seizure severity and frequency in children with drug-resistant epilepsy.
