is characterized by gelatinous basidiomata with hydnoid hymenophores and longitudinally septate basidia. In this study, samples of the genus from North China were examined morphologically and phylogenetically using a dataset of the internal transcribed spacer of the ribosomal RNA gene and the nuclear large subunit rDNA. This study describes three new species, namely , , and . is characterized by pileate and pale clay pink basidiomata when fresh, with a rudimentary stipe base, four-celled basidia, and broadly ellipsoid to ovoid or subglobose basidiospores (6-7.5 × 5-6.3 μm). is characterized by very white basidiomata when fresh, frequently four-celled basidia, and broadly ellipsoid to subglobose basidiospores (7.2-8.5 × 6-7 μm). is characterized by ivory basidiomata when fresh, two-celled basidia, ovoid to broadly ellipsoid, or subglobose basidiospores (7.5-9.5 × 5.8-7.2 μm). The main characteristics, type localities, and hosts of species are listed.

(, ) is described as a novel species from Yunnan Province, southwestern China. It is morphologically recognised by a small basidiocarp with orange-yellow to orange-red scales on the pileus and stipe, white lamellae, orange-red to bright red basal mycelia, subglobose to broadly ellipsoid basidiospores with dense warts and short or long ridges. Phylogenetically analyses of DNA sequences from part of the 28S gene combined with the nuclear rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region also confirm that forms an independent lineage within subgenus section .

Article Synopsis
  • Phylogenetic and morphological studies on species within a certain group (s.l.) were conducted using DNA sequences from two specific regions to reconstruct their evolutionary relationships.
  • Two new species from Yunnan Province, China, were identified and described, featuring distinct characteristics such as variations in basidiomata, hyphal systems, and spore sizes.
  • The research also introduces two new combinations within the genus related to these species and provides key morphological traits for better identification of the newly discovered taxa.

The genus within the family Mycenaceae is characterised by the gelatinous basidiomata with poroid hymenophore and most species inhabit monocotyledonous plants. In this study, many samples covering a wide geographic range in China were examined morphologically and phylogenetically using concatenated ITS1-5.8S-ITS2-nLSU sequence data.

is a widespread genus of () with polyporoid basidiomata found mainly in the tropics. Species of are predominantly parasitic of woody plant hosts, while some species grow as saprotrophs. Data on the genus is still scarce for tropical Africa, where we expect a high diversity given the high plant diversity in this area.

, one of the most noticeable genera of Boletaceae (Boletales), is both ecologically and economically important. Although many studies have focused on in China, the diversity still remains incompletely understood. In the present study, several collections of from Hainan Island, tropical China were studied based on morphology and molecular phylogenetic analyses.
