Electronic address:

The use of dynamic DNA logic circuits for disease diagnosis at the molecular level plays a considerable role in biomedical fields. Nevertheless, how to create programmable nanomachines based on molecular logical gates to accurately identify multiple biomarkers from tumor cells remains a pivotal challenge. Herein, we developed a DNA-based nanomachine for analyzing and imaging multiple microRNAs (miRNAs) in cancerous cells with a logical AND operation.

Enhanced Compressive Mechanical Properties of Bio-Inspired Lattice Metamaterials with Taper Struts.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Suzhou XDM 3D Printing Technology Co., Ltd., Suzhou 215000, China.

The stress distribution within the struts of lattice metamaterials is non-uniform under compressive loads, with stress concentrations typically occurring at the node regions. Inspired by bamboo, this study proposes a type of body-centered cubic (BCC) lattice metamaterial with tapered prism struts (BCCT). The compressive behavior, deformation modes, mechanical properties, and failure mechanisms of BCCT lattice metamaterials are systematically analyzed using finite element methods and validated through compression tests.

Through the lens of preclinical research on substance use disorders (SUD), I propose a reflection aimed at re-evaluating animal models in neuroscience, with a focus on ecological relevance. While rodent models have provided valuable insights into the neurobiology of SUD, the field currently faces a validation crisis, with findings often failing to translate into effective human treatments. Originally designed to address the lack of reproducibility in animal studies, the current global gold standard of rigorous standardization has led to increasingly controlled environments.

Gain of bipolar disorder-related lncRNA AP1AR-DT in mice induces depressive and anxiety-like behaviors by reducing Negr1-mediated excitatory synaptic transmission.

BMC Med

November 2024

Department of Medical Genetics, Guangdong Technology and Engineering Research Center for Molecular Diagnostics of Human Genetic Diseases, and Guangdong Engineering and Technology Research Center for Genetic Testing, School of Basic Medical Sciences, and Guangdong Mental Health Center, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Science), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Background: Bipolar disorder is a complex polygenic disorder that is characterized by recurrent episodes of depression and mania, the heterogeneity of which is likely complicated by epigenetic modifications that remain to be elucidated.

Methods: We performed transcriptomic analysis of peripheral blood RNA from monozygotic (MZ) twins discordant for bipolar disorder to identify disease-associated differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs (DE-lncRNAs), which were further validated in the PsychENCODE brain RNA-seq dataset. We then performed behavioral tests, electrophysiological assays, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and PCR to investigate the function of DE-lncRNAs in the mouse and cell models.

Structure, morphology and surface properties of α-lactose monohydrate in relation to its powder properties.

J Pharm Sci

January 2025

Centre for the Digital Design of Drug Products, School of Chemical and Process Engineering, Institute of Process, Research & Development, University of Leeds, Leeds LS2 9JT, UK. Electronic address:

The particulate properties of α-lactose monohydrate (αLMH), an excipient and carrier for pharmaceuticals, is important for the design, formulation and performance of a wide range of drug products. Here an integrated multi-scale workflow provides a detailed molecular and inter-molecular (synthonic) analysis of its crystal morphology, surface chemistry and surface energy. Predicted morphologies are validated in 3D through X-ray diffraction (XCT) contrast tomography.
