Mathematics is related to apheresis medicine. The safety of donor and patient in taking blood components is utterly important. Knowledge of total blood and plasma volume is needed and have to be calculated. By increasing quality, the safety of not only the donor and patient, but also the operator will increase, as well as the efficiency of operating an apheresis collection facility. Various concepts, formulas and calculations methods and their significance in apheresis are given in this paper.

Background: The setting of normovolemic anemia is required for a variety of research applications, such as testing of novel medication for anemia treatment. Unfortunately, large animal models using full blood draw and replenishment with balanced electrolyte solution (BES) lead to bleeding complications, as coagulation factors and platelets are also drawn. We therefore aimed to establish a model of selective red blood cell (RBC) depletion to the main endpoint of hemoglobin (Hgb) levels of 4-6 g dL using apheresis in sheep.

International consensus supports the development of standardized protocols for measured glomerular filtration rate (mGFR) to facilitate the integration of mGFR testing in both clinical and research settings. To this end, the European Kidney Function Consortium convened an international group of experts with relevant experience in mGFR. The working group performed an extensive literature search to inform the development of recommendations for mGFR determination using 1-compartment plasma clearance models and iohexol as the exogenous filtration marker.

Background And Aims: Previous studies have shown that lipoprotein apheresis can modify the plasma lipidome and pro-inflammatory and pro-thrombotic lipid mediators. This has not been examined for treatment with protein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors such as evolocumab, which are increasingly used instead of lipoprotein apheresis in treatment-resistant familial hypercholesterolemia. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of evolocumab treatment and lipoprotein apheresis on the fatty acid profile and on formation of lipid mediators in blood samples.

Background: A new cystatin C based European Kidney Function Consortium (EKFC) equation was recently developed for adults, using the same mathematical form as the previously published full age spectrum creatinine based EKFC-equation (EKFC). In the present study the cystatin C based EKFC-equation is extended to children, by defining the appropriate cystatin C rescaling factor Q.
Methods: Rescaling factor Q for cystatin C was defined as: a) 0.
