Introduction: Collagenase II has been used to induce experimental keratoconus in animal models. However, its effect when administered by intrastromal injection has not been studied, so the purpose of this study was to study the effects of intrastromal injection of collagenase II on corneal surface and corneal morphology.
Methods: Six New Zealand rabbits were used, collagenase II was administered by intrastromal injection (5μL of 2.5mg/mL) in the right eyes and balanced salt solution in the left eyes. Keratometry was performed to evaluate curvature alteration, also at day 7 corneas were obtained and Hematoxylin-Eosin staining was performed to examine morphologic changes. Likewise, changes in type I collagen expression were investigated by Sirius Red staining and semiquantitative PCR.
Results: K1, K2 and Km presented differences in the means with statistically significant changes. The morphological changes that were demonstrated were degradation and irregular arrangement of the corneal stroma, increase in the cellular density of keratocytes and slight cellular infiltration. Finally, it was demonstrated that there is greater expression of type I collagen fibers in the experimental group as opposed to the controls and the thickness of the fibers also increased due to the action of collagenase II, however, in terms of genetics there were no changes in the expression of type I collagen at molecular level between the control and experimental groups.
Conclusions: Collagenase II administered by intrastromal injection is able to induce changes in the corneal surface and stroma, being able to simulate a model of keratoconus.

Descemet's membrane (DM) detachment is a significant, if rare, risk of intracameral injection of viscoelastic to treat hypotony after glaucoma filtration surgery. We describe two cases of DM detachment following inadvertent injection of viscoelastic into the posterior stroma and the techniques used for their repair. In both cases, conventional air tamponade failed to resolve the detachment, and further surgical intervention was required.

A male patient in his 20s, suffering from a persistent, infection-related corneal endothelial plaque (EP) was urgently referred to our tertiary medical centre for therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty (TPK). Over the preceding month, he had been undergoing treatment with both topical and oral antifungal medications due to clinical suspicion of fungal keratitis. At our centre, an endothelial scraping was performed using a reverse Sinskey hook to obtain samples for microbiology and revealed septate branching fungal hyphae.

Aims: This report summarizes clinical findings, diagnosis, management, and long term outcomes of a recalcitrant and keratitis.
Methods And Materials: An otherwise healthy male patient presented with a corneal infiltrate with predominantly fungal characteristics, but atypical in terms of progression. The infiltrate remained undiagnosed even after several scrapings, and aqueous tap cultures.

Purpose: Neurotrophic keratopathy (NK) is a degenerative corneal condition resulting from corneal nerve injury. Current therapies, including the recombinant human nerve growth factor (rhNGF) therapy, requires continuous administration. This study aims to develop a novel and highly effective gene therapy strategy for the prevention and treatment of NK.

Keratomycosis is a serious corneal infection associated with high ocular morbidity that can lead to severe vision loss. It is estimated to affect more than 1 million patients annually, most commonly occurring in tropical climates, and represents a growing threat to patients worldwide. Despite aggressive medical management, fungal infections have a higher rate of perforation requiring surgical intervention compared with other infectious etiologies.
