Toxoplasmosis is an opportunistic infection caused by the coccidian which represents a food and water contaminant. The available chemotherapeutic agents for toxoplasmosis are limited and the choice is difficult when considering the side effects. Selenium is an essential trace element. It is naturally found in dietary sources, especially seafood, and cereals. Selenium and selenocompounds showed anti-parasitic effects through antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. The present study evaluated the potential efficacy of environmentally benign selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) against acute toxoplasmosis in a mouse model. SeNPs were fabricated by nanobiofactory and characterized by different analytical techniques including, UV-spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy, EDX, and XRD. Swiss albino mice were infected with RH strain in a dose of 3500 tachyzoites in 100 μl saline to induce acute toxoplasmosis. Mice were divided into five groups. : non-infected, non-treated, : infected, non-treated, : non-infected, treated with SeNPs, : infected, treated with co-trimoxazole (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim) and : infected, treated with SeNPs. There was a significant increase in survival time in the SeNPs-treated group and minimum parasite count was observed compared to untreated mice in hepatic and splenic impression smears. Scanning electron microscopy showed tachyzoites deformity with multiple depressions and protrusions, while transmission electron microscopy showed excessive vacuolization and lysis of the cytoplasm, especially in the area around the nucleus and the apical complex, together with irregular cell boundary and poorly demarcated cell organelles. The present study demonstrated that the biologically synthesized SeNPs can be a potential natural anti- agent .

Metal halide perovskites have excellent optoelectronic properties. This study aims to determine how the optoelectronic properties of a model perovskite, cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr), change with length and thickness in one dimension (1D). By examining the photophysics of CsPbBr quantum dots (QDs), nanowires (NWs), and nanorods (NRs), we observe the influence of confinement, exciton diffusion, and trapping on their optical properties.

Mitochondrial antiviral-signaling protein (MAVS) is a key adapter protein required for inducing type I interferons (IFN-Is) and other antiviral effector molecules. The formation of MAVS aggregates on mitochondria is essential for its activation; however, the regulatory mitochondrial factor that mediates the aggregation process is unknown. Our recent work has identified the protein Aggregatin as a critical seeding factor for β-amyloid peptide aggregation.

The cytoskeleton is crucial for cell organization and movement. In Eukaryotes, it largely consists of the protein actin, that forms a double-stranded linear filamentous structure in the presence of ATP and disassemble upon ATP hydrolysis. Bacteria also possess actin homologs, that drive fundamental cellular processes, including cell division, shape maintenance, and DNA segregation.

The solid-state nanopore technique holds the potential to develop mechanically stable and miniaturized DNA sequencing devices. However, the limited temporal resolution due to the high electric field inside the nanopore and the lack of an effective speed control strategy have hindered the realization of sequencing. Here, we reported a quad-array (four nanopores milled with ∼30 nm interpore spacing as a detection unit) that induced a redistribution of the electric field inside and outside the nanopore array and offered high-resolution discrimination of four ssDNA homopolymer types.

Background: Bone defects, particularly in the mandible, pose significant clinical challenges due to the limited regenerative capacity. Effective bone tissue engineering requires biomaterials that promote both osteogenesis and angiogenesis. This study developed an optimized collagen-nano hydroxyapatite scaffold loaded with dexamethasone and stem cells to enhance bone regeneration.
