We study coupled unitary Virasoro minimal models in the large rank (m→∞) limit. In large m perturbation theory, we find two nontrivial IR fixed points which exhibit irrational coefficients in several anomalous dimensions and the central charge. For N>4 copies, we show that the IR theory breaks all possible currents that would otherwise enhance the Virasoro algebra, up to spin 10. This provides strong evidence that the IR fixed points are examples of compact, unitary, irrational conformal field theories with the minimal amount of chiral symmetry. We also analyze anomalous dimension matrices for a family of degenerate operators with increasing spin. These display further evidence of irrationality and begin to reveal the form of the leading quantum Regge trajectory.

ssDNA Capture Dynamics by Graphene Nanopores: The Role of Electrophoresis and Electro-osmotic Flow.

J Phys Chem Lett

January 2025

School of Chemical Engineering and Light Industry, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou 510006, People's Republic of China.

Efficient capture of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) is crucial for high-throughput sequencing, which influences the speed and accuracy of genetic analysis. Electrophoresis (EP) and electro-osmotic flow (EOF) have a significant impact on the translocation behavior of ssDNA through the nanopore. Experimentally, dynamically tracking these two effects remains challenging, and conventional numerical methods also struggle to capture their dynamic properties in the presence of DNA.

Elasticity of Swollen and Folded Polyacrylamide Hydrogel Using the MARTINI Coarse-Grained Model.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

School of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Seoul National University, 1 Gwanak-ro, Gwanak-gu, Seoul 08826, Republic of Korea.

One of the key advantages of using a hydrogel is its superb control over elasticity obtained through variations of constituent polymer and water. The underlying molecular nature of a hydrogel is a fundamental origin of hydrogel mechanics. In this article, we report a Polyacrylamide (PAAm)-based hydrogel model using the MARTINI coarse-grained (CG) force field.

Replacement of a single residue changes the primary specificity of thrombin.

Fertil Steril

January 2025

Edward A. Doisy Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Saint Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63104 USA. Electronic address:

Background: Thrombin prefers substrates carrying Arg at the site of cleavage (P1) because of the presence of D189 in the primary specificity (S1) pocket but can also cleave substrates carrying Phe at P1. The structural basis of this property is unknown.

Objective: Solve the X-ray structure of thrombin bound to a ligand carrying Phe at P1 and investigate the effects of replacing D189.

Witnessing rejection against one's group can have similar impacts on psychological distress and aggression as experiencing rejection personally. In this study, we investigated the neural activity patterns of group rejection and whether they resemble those of personal-level rejection. We first identified the neural correlates of social rejection (exclusion based on negative attention) compared with ostracism (exclusion based on lack of social connection) and then compared group-level to personal-level rejection.

Entropic Order Parameters for Categorical Symmetries in 2D-CFT.

Entropy (Basel)

December 2024

Instituto de Física Teórica, CSIC-Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 28049 Madrid, Spain.

In this work, we propose an information theoretic order parameter able to characterize the presence and breaking of categorical symmetries in (1+1)-d rational conformal field theories (RCFTs). Specifically, we compute the quantum relative entropy between the ground states of RCFTs representing the critical point of phase transitions between different symmetry-broken phases of theories with categorical symmetries, and their symmetrized versions. We find that, at leading order in the high temperature limit, this relative entropy only depends on the expectation values of the quantum dimensions of the topological operators implementing the categorical symmetry.
