Sauna bathing in northern Sweden: results from the MONICA study 2022.

Int J Circumpolar Health

December 2024

Department of Health Science, Faculty of Health, Science, and Technology, Karlstad University, Karlstad, Sweden.

Frequent sauna bathing has been associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and proposed as a mediator for improved health. Therefore, the aim was to describe and compare sauna bathers with non-sauna bathers in northern Sweden based on their demographics, health and life attitudes, and to describe sauna bathers' sauna habits. Questions on sauna bathing habits were included in the questionnaire for the participants in the Northern Sweden MONICA (multinational monitoring of trends and determinants in cardiovascular disease) study, conducted during spring of 2022, inviting adults 25-74 years living in the two northernmost counties of Sweden (Norr- and Västerbotten), randomly selected from the population register.

Chapman's claim that the key to marital happiness is "speaking" your partner's primary "love language" has been highly influential in pop culture and incorporated into therapeutic practice. However, the theory has not yet been empirically validated. Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to create a simple screening tool for identifying individuals at risk of developing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), emphasizing the need for prevention due to the increasing drug overdose deaths.
  • Participants included 259 individuals from a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) clinic and an urgent care clinic, surveyed on demographics, risk factors, and first experiences with alcohol and opioids.
  • Results indicated that individuals in the MAT group reported significantly more positive feelings during their first experiences with alcohol and opioids compared to the urgent care group, suggesting a potential link between initial emotional responses and future substance use disorders.

The superiority and tolerability of daratumumab plus bortezomib/melphalan/prednisone (D-VMP) versus bortezomib/melphalan/prednisone (VMP) in transplant-ineligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) was previously described in the global phase 3 ALCYONE study. The primary analysis of the phase 3 OCTANS study further demonstrated the superiority and tolerability of D-VMP (n = 144) versus VMP (n = 71) in transplant-ineligible Asian patients with NDMM. The current analysis describes the final efficacy and safety outcomes for D-VMP versus VMP in OCTANS, with a follow-up of > 3 years.
