Rech. F. & Wendelbo. traditionally has been used in several remedies, as a carminative agent especially for children, as an antiseptic agent, and it is used in treating diarrhea, stomach irritations, headaches, colds, convulsions, spasms, dysmenorrhea, and healing wounds. According to clinical studies, it is highly effective for reducing inflammation and pain, treating bacterial and fungal infections, morphine tolerance, morphine dependence, withdrawal syndrome symptoms, convulsions, and diabetes. The goal of this review is to find therapeutic opportunities by analyzing the traditional uses and pharmacological effects of the chemical constituents of The information on in this review was gathered from scientific databases or search engines (PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Scopus, SID, Google Scholar, and Microsoft Academic). The literature cited in this review dates from 1992 to 2021. Several bioactive components including linalool, camphor, manool, and bioactive diterpenoids are presen in different parts of . Various properties were observed such as antioxidant, antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, larvicidal, anticonvulsant, antidiabetic, and anticancer properties. Also, the effect of on morphine tolerance, morphine dependence, and withdrawal syndrome as well as its toxicology has been established. Although there are and animal studies on several pharmacological effects of , the lack of clinical studies is significant. Therefore, further clinical trials should be performed to confirm the and animal findings.

Effects of aged garlic extract on macrophage functions: a short review of experimental evidence (Review).

Biomed Rep

March 2025

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, Tokyo 113-8654, Japan.

Macrophages play crucial roles in both the innate and adaptive immune systems, contributing to the removal of pathogens and subsequent immune responses. Conversely, aberrant macrophage functions are associated with the onset and progression of various diseases, highlighting macrophages as potential therapeutic targets. Aged garlic extract (AGE) is derived from garlic that has undergone a maturation process of over 10 months in an ethanol solution and contains a variety of bioactive components which are produced in the aging process.

The prospective therapeutic benefits of sesamol: neuroprotection in neurological diseases.

Nutr Neurosci

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, University of Macau, Macau, People's Republic of China.

Oxidative stress is recognized as a critical contributor to the advancement of neurological diseases, thereby rendering the alleviation of oxidative stress a pivotal strategy in the therapeutic management of such conditions. Sesamol, the principal constituent of sesame oil, has been the subject of extensive research due to its significant antioxidant properties, especially its ability to effectively counteract oxidative stress within the central nervous system and confer neuroprotection. While sesamol demonstrates potential in the treatment and prevention of neurological diseases, its modulation of oxidative stress is complex and not yet fully understood.

[Pathology of the spleen : Differential diagnosis of splenomegaly].

Pathologie (Heidelb)

February 2025

Institut für Pathologie, Universitätsmedizin Göttingen, Universität Göttingen, Robert-Koch-Str. 40, 37075, Göttingen, Deutschland.

After describing the anatomy of the spleen and the most important immunohistochemical stains for identifying cellular constituents of the normal splenic compartments, etiologies of splenomegaly and the diagnostic approach for spleen biopsies are discussed using the example of a North African patient with a recent migration background and sudden fever. The focus is on infectious diseases and the morphology and molecular features of hematolymphoid neoplasms, particularly the primary "splenic B‑cell lymphomas" according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification. The importance of clinicopathological correlations and interdisciplinary cooperation in splenic pathology is emphasized.
