This study investigated the effects of nine colour environments on visual tracking accuracy and visual strain during normal sitting (SP), -12° head-down bed (HD) and 9.6° head-up tilt bed (HU). In a standard posture change laboratory study, fifty-four participants performed visual tracking tasks in nine colour environments while in the three postures. Visual strain was measured by means of a questionnaire. The results showed that in all colour environments, the -12° head-down bed rest posture significantly affected visual tracking accuracy and visual strain. During the three postures, the participants' visual tracking accuracy in the cyan environment was significantly higher than that in other colour environments, and their visual strain was the lowest. Overall, the study adds to our understanding of how environmental and postural factors impact on visual tracking and visual strain.

The emergence of augmented reality (AR) in surgical procedures could significantly enhance accuracy and outcomes, particularly in the complex field of orthognathic surgery. This study compares the effectiveness and accuracy of traditional drilling guides with two AR-based navigation techniques: one utilizing ArUco markers and the other employing small-workspace infrared tracking cameras for a drilling task. Additionally, an alternative AR visualization paradigm for surgical navigation is proposed that eliminates the potential inaccuracies of image detection using headset cameras.

Conventional scanned optical coherence tomography (OCT) suffers from the frame rate/resolution tradeoff, whereby increasing image resolution leads to decreases in the maximum achievable frame rate. To overcome this limitation, we propose two variants of machine learning (ML)-based adaptive scanning approaches: one using a ConvLSTM-based sequential prediction model and another leveraging a temporal attention unit (TAU)-based parallel prediction model for scene dynamics prediction. These models are integrated with a kinodynamic path planner based on the clustered traveling salesperson problem to create two versions of ML-based adaptive scanning pipelines.
