Efficient diode-pumped passively Q-switched Nd:YVO yellow and orange lasers are developed with the pulse pumping scheme and the intracavity stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and second harmonic generation (SHG). A Np-cut KGW is exploited in the SRS process to generate the yellow 579 nm laser or the orange 589 nm laser in a selectable way. The high efficiency is achieved by designing a compact resonator to include a coupled cavity for intracavity SRS and SHG and to provide a focused beam waist on the saturable absorber for reaching an excellent passive Q-switching. The output pulse energy and peak power can reach 0.08 mJ and 50 kW for the orange laser at 589 nm. On the other hand, the output pulse energy and peak power can be up to 0.10 mJ and 80 kW for the yellow laser at 579 nm.

A nanosecond-pulsed diode-pumped Tm-doped fiber laser (TDFL) operating at 2050 nm is reported based on a flexible photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with a core diameter of 50 µm. Analytical evaluation of reabsorption effects and optimization of the fiber length allow enhanced pulse energy extraction at long wavelengths. This enables the generation of Gaussian-shaped pulses with pulse energies of 1.

After using a pair of prisms for dispersion compensation, the narrowest pulse width of 70 fs was achieved at a repetition rate of 100 MHz. The mode-locked laser had a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 55 dB and a beam quality factor of less than 1.

Multimode fibers are attractive for high-power lasers if transverse modes are efficiently controlled. Here, a dielectric thin-film mirror (R~20%) is micro-fabricated on the central area of the end face of a 1 km multimode 100/140 µm graded-index fiber and tested as the output mirror of a Raman laser with highly multimode (M~34) 940 nm diode pumping. In the cavity with highly reflective input FBG, Raman lasing of the Stokes wave at 976 nm starts at the threshold pump power of ~80 W.
