In this Letter, an ultracompact terahertz (THz) mode division multiplexer based on THz spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) is proposed. Compared with traditional optical multiplexing devices, the proposed mode multiplexer can be designed with a reduced footprint by exploiting more degrees of freedom in the parameters of the unit cell, namely a rectangular metallic pillar. The ultracompact mode division multiplexer can simultaneously support the propagation of four mode channels: the TM, TM, TM, and TM modes. Then, we numerically evaluate the performance of a cascaded plasmonic mode division circuit composed of a mode multiplexer and demultiplexer. The cross talk and excess loss of the whole circuit are lower than -15 dB and 3.7 dB, respectively, for all four mode channels at a center frequency of 0.65 THz. The footprint of the whole device is about 27 × 2.3 mm and the length of each coupling region is about 2.7 mm. For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, a mode division multiplexer based on THz spoof SPPs is reported, which will form core devices for future THz on-chip multimode communication systems.

Rationale: In critically ill patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation, switching from controlled to assisted ventilation is a crucial milestone towards ventilator liberation. The optimal timing for switching to assisted ventilation has not been studied.
Objectives: Our objective was to determine whether a strategy of early as compared to delayed switching affects the duration of invasive mechanical ventilation, ICU length of stay, and mortality.

Unlabelled: Mycobacteria, including pathogens like , exhibit unique growth patterns and cell envelope structures that challenge our understanding of bacterial physiology. This study sheds light on FhaA, a conserved protein in , revealing its pivotal role in coordinating cell envelope biogenesis and asymmetric growth. The elucidation of the FhaA interactome in living mycobacterial cells reveals its participation in the protein network orchestrating cell envelope biogenesis and cell elongation/division.

The upgrading of ethanol to -butanol marks a major breakthrough in the field of biofuel technology, offering the advantages of compatibility with existing infrastructure while simultaneously offering potential benefits in terms of transport efficiency and energy density. With its lower vapour pressure and reduced corrosiveness compared to ethanol, -butanol is easier not only to manage but also to transport, eliminating the need for costly infrastructure changes. This leads to improved fuel efficiency and reduced fuel consumption.

Background: Ripretinib, a broad-spectrum tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has been approved for the treatment of advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors in adult patients. Clinical studies have shown that higher exposure of ripretinib correlates with improved efficacy, highlighting the potential clinical significance of therapeutic drug monitoring. In this study, a simple and stable liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was attempted to be established and validated for pharmacokinetic studies of ripretinib and its metabolite DP-5439 and therapeutic drug monitoring in human plasma.
