Aims: Heart failure (HF) is an emerging epidemic worldwide. Despite advances in treatment, the morbidity and mortality rate of HF remain high, and the global prevalence continues to rise. Common clinical features of HF include cardiac sympathoexcitation, disordered breathing, and kidney dysfunction; kidney dysfunction strongly contributes to sodium retention and fluid overload, leading to poor outcomes of HF patients.

This cross-sectional study explored among Tanzanian adults whether unhealthy dietary patterns are associated with intestinal and systemic inflammation which could increase the risk of NCDs. Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze complementary feeding practices, to assess the extent to which minimum dietary diversity (MDD) recommendations are being met in the population studied and to study factors that influence the achievement of MDD.

Design: We pooled individual level data form the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and Multi Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS). We apply methods from poverty measurement to identify individual gaps towards achieving minimum dietary diversity (MDD).
