Having been predominantly observed in rigid metal and metal alloys since 1865, the magnetoelastic effect was recently experimentally discovered in a soft matter system and used as a new working mechanism for energy and health care applications. Here, a theoretical framework is presented and proven to be universally accurate and robust in interpreting the giant magnetoelastic effect across soft systems subjected to various deformation modes, micromagnet concentrations, magnetization profiles, and geometric structures. The theory uncovers substantial, unique magnetoelastic phenomena in soft systems, including the magnetic pole reversal under localized compression.

Chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) is an inflammatory bone disease, usually diagnosed in childhood. It is characterized by the presence of multifocal or unifocal osteolytic lesions that can cause bone pain and soft tissue swelling. CNO is known to have soft tissue involvement.

A 2-year-old girl initially presented with an enlarging and fluctuating mass resembling a bruise several months after orbital trauma. CT imaging showed soft tissue contusion and possible hematoma, without cystic characteristics. Surgical excision was conducted and immunohistochemistry staining revealed CD34+ endothelium.

Mechanical metamaterials exhibit several unusual mechanical properties, such as a negative Poisson's ratio, which impart additional capabilities to materials. Recently, hydrogels have emerged as exceptional candidates for fabricating mechanical metamaterials that offer enhanced functionality and expanded applications due to their unique responsive characteristics. However, the adaptability of these metamaterials remains constrained and underutilized, as they lack integration of the hydrogels' soft and responsive characteristics with the metamaterial design.

Musculoskeletal injuries in children offer unique challenges compared with those in adults. Even low-energy injuries that involve the physis have the potential to cause a growth disturbance that could require treatment. Higher-energy injuries can be complicated by the same soft-tissue disruption, fracture contamination, and bone loss that are seen in adults.
