GFR Estimation and Correlation for Oncology Patients by Two Methods, Gates Method and Dual Time Point Plasma Sampling Method.

Indian J Nucl Med

November 2024

Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre, Tata Memorial Centre, Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Varanasi, India.

Background: With the increasing number of oncology cases and a parallel surge in chemotherapeutic drugs for treatment, the treating physicians conducts nephrotoxicity evaluation to provide a personalized dosing strategy. Of the various tests available, glomerular filtration rate (GFR) under gamma camera with help of Gates method has gained importance, being a good index of overall kidney functions. In addition to this, there has been an alternate and old method for GFR estimation: plasma sampling.

Efficacy of Thromboelastography-Guided Blood Transfusion Management in Thoracic Aortic Surgery.

Ann Thorac Surg Short Rep

June 2023

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Science, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Tokyo, Japan.

Background: In thoracic aortic surgery, a large amount of blood transfusion is required because of preoperative coagulopathy and long cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of intraoperative thromboelastography (TEG)-guided blood transfusion management in thoracic aortic surgery.

Methods: Between 2015 and 2017 at our institution, 53 patients who underwent elective thoracic aortic surgery with hypothermic circulatory arrest through median sternotomy were divided into 2 groups: group C, conventional management (25 patients); and group T, TEG-guided management (28 patients).

This cross-sectional study compared plasma brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels among chronic primary musculoskeletal pain patients, chronic widespread pain patients, and asymptomatic controls. The study included 126 participants aged 18-65, divided into three groups of 42 each. Pain intensity was assessed using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and plasma BDNF levels were measured via ELISA.

The aim of our study was to assess the effects of low or high-starch diets with or without palmitic acid (C16:0) supplementation on the yield of milk, milk components, and energy partitioning of primiparous and multiparous dairy cows between mid and late-lactation. Thirty-two Holstein cows, 12 primiparous ([mean ± SD] 163 ± 33 d in milk) and 20 multiparous ([mean ± SD] 179 ± 37 d in milk), were used in a split-plot Latin square design. Parity was considered the main plot, and within each plot, treatments were then randomly assigned in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square with 21 d periods and balanced for carryover effects.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) blood biomarkers alone can detect amyloid-β (Aβ) pathology in cognitively unimpaired (CU) individuals. We assessed whether combining different plasma biomarkers improves the detection of Aβ-positivity and identifies rapid amyloid deposition in CU individuals.

Method: CU participants from the ALFA+ cohort were included.
