Formalin-fixed whole heart specimens are essential for studying the anatomy of congenital heart defects. Because of the improvement in diagnostic imaging and treatment, and cultural transition, heart specimens with congenital heart defects have become more and more rare and irreplaceable but are at risk of accidental deterioration through dehydration during long-term storage. In this article, we share our experience in reconditioning our inadvertently dehydrated heart specimens using a simple Formol-Glycerol solution that allowed for rehydration and recovery of such specimens.

Aims: Amyloid deposition in myocardial tissue is a definitive feature for diagnosing cardiac amyloidosis, though less invasive imaging modalities such as bone tracer cardiac scintigraphy and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging have been established as first steps for its diagnosis. This study aimed to develop a deep learning model to support the diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis from haematoxylin/eosin (HE)-stained myocardial tissue.
Methods And Results: This single-centre retrospective observational study enrolled 166 patients who underwent myocardial biopsies between 2008 and 2022, including 76 patients diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis and 90 with other diagnoses.

Background: Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) related indices, which serve as simple markers for insulin resistance, have been closely linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and mortality. However, the prognostic utility of TyG-related indices in predicting the risk of CVD and mortality among patients with MASLD remains unclear.
Methods: Data of 97,331 MASLD patients, with a median age of 58.

The prevalence of mitragynine (kratom) in forensic toxicology casework has steadily increased over time. Readily available and currently legal, mitragynine is widely used for its stimulant and, depending on concentration, sedative effects. Our laboratory analyzed various fluid and tissue specimens from 51 postmortem cases to investigate the distribution of mitragynine and its active metabolite 7-hydroxymitragynine.

Background: Polyamines, including spermidine (SPD), spermine (SPM) and putrescine (PUT), are essential for cellular physiology and various cellular processes. This study aimed to examine the associations of dietary polyamines intake and all-cause mortality and incident cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Methods: This prospective cohort study included 184,732 participants without CVD at baseline from the UK Biobank who had completed at least one dietary questionnaire.
