Modifying natural polymers with silicones gives new possibilities for packaging products and waste management. In this study, the innovative papers produced were altered following the reaction of polysaccharides and organosilicon compounds. The susceptibility of the studied material to biodegradation caused by a brown-rot fungus was assessed. Strength properties by tensile strength and dynamic mechanical analysis and hydrophobic properties by water uptake test and water contact angle analysis were evaluated. Moreover, elemental analysis by ICP method was controlled. The durability against fungi and the hydrophobic properties were increased by the modification. The fungal decay resistance of the silanized paper was reduced by water storage, which allows for managing paper waste. Cellulose-based paper treated with starch-modified methyltrimethoxysilane showed potential as a packaging material due to its reduced water uptake. Possible application areas could be corrugated boxes, cellulose thermoformed products for electronics, and food packaging. However, the water-repellent effect is limited to short-term exposure in humid conditions.

Polylactic acid (PLA) composites with high straw content face several challenges, primarily due to the inherent brittleness of straw and its poor compatibility with the polymer matrix. In this study, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze the microscopic structure of wheat straw chemically modified by NaOH and the silane coupling agent, and it was concluded that both treatments effectively removed waxes and silica from the surface of the straw, enhanced fiber roughness, and improved interfacial adhesion. Notably, the silane coupling agent treatment not only facilitated the formation of chemical bonds between the straw fibers and the PLA matrix but also filled the interfiber pores, significantly increasing the structural density.

This paper presents a method for producing VTMS/HAp/VTMS/VTMS multilayer coatings on a Grade 2 titanium substrate and characterizes their structure and functional properties. Two solutions were used to produce the coatings: one based on vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS) and the other on hydroxyapatite (HAp) powder. The coatings were applied using immersion using the sol-gel method.

In recent years, global climate change has caused worldwide trends in science and industry toward a focus on the development of modern technologies with reduced environmental impact, including reduced CO emissions into the atmosphere. The technology for producing asphalt mixtures (AM) at lower temperatures (WMA-warm asphalt mix) using zeolite materials for the bitumen foaming process fits perfectly into these trends. Therefore, towards the development of this technology, the research presented in this paper presents the modification process of zeolite NaP1 from fly ash with silanes of different chemical structures (TEOS, MPTS, TESPT) and their application in the foaming process of bitumen modified with polymers (PMB 45/80-55).

The large number of tires produced annually demands new recycling methods. A key challenge associated with recycling elastomers is their crosslinking structure that prevents fusion. It is possible to reverse crosslinking through a process called devulcanization.

Degradable chiral mesoporous silica nanoparticles (DCMSN) are synthesized for selective loading and controlled release of S-naproxen (S-NPX). Chiral silane coupling agent (APTES-L) and degradable silane coupling agent (APTES-CN) are synthesized, respectively, which are used for the synthesis of DCMSN. APTES-L endows the DCMSN with chirality, while APTES-CN endows the DCMSN with degradability.
