Bite force measuring devices that are generally suitable for edentulous patients or patients undergoing mandibular reconstruction are missing. This study assesses the validity of a new bite force measuring device (prototype of loadpad, novel GmbH) and evaluates its feasibility in patients after segmental mandibular resection. Accuracy and reproducibility were analyzed with two different protocols using a universal testing machine (Z010 AllroundLine, Zwick/Roell, Ulm, Germany). Four groups were tested to evaluate the impact of silicone layers around the sensor: no silicone ("pure"), 2.0 mm soft silicone ("2-soft"), 7.0 mm soft silicone ("7-soft") and 2.0 mm hard silicone ("2-hard"). Thereafter, the device was tested in 10 patients prospectively who underwent mandibular reconstruction using a fibula free flap. Average relative deviations of the measured force in relation to the applied load reached 0.77% ("7-soft") to 5.28% ("2-hard"). Repeated measurements in "2-soft" revealed a mean relative deviation of 2.5% until an applied load of 600 N. Maximum bite force decreased postoperatively by 51.8% to a maximum mean bite force of 131.5 N. The novel device guarantees a high accuracy and degree of reproducibility. Furthermore, it offers new opportunities to quantify perioperative oral function after reconstructive surgery of the mandible also in edentulous patients.

The Aim Of The Study: Was to determine the possibility of calculating the parameters of the occlusal surface of fixed dentures.
Materials And Methods: An analysis of dependence between the area of the occlusal surface and the area of the support structures (tooth root/implant), between the severity of the occlusal relief (tubercles of teeth) on the length of the root/implant was carried out.
Results: The nearness of the Kurlandsky periodontal coefficients and Oksman masticatory coefficients with the calculated coefficients obtained on the basis of 3D analysis of the lateral teeth anatomy has been established.

Objective: To prospectively evaluate the long-term effects of orthognathic surgery on masticatory function in individuals with repaired complete cleft lip and palate and to compare the results with a control group.
Material And Methods: A total of 40 individuals were prospectively analyzed before (PRE-ORTHOG) and approximately 12 months after orthognathic surgery (POST-ORTHOG). The participants were divided into two groups: 1) Cleft Lip and Palate Group (CLP): 20 adults with CLP undergoing orthognathic surgery (14 ♂, 6 ♀, age 24 ± 3 years), and 2) Control Group (CON): 20 paired adults with Angle Class I skeletal pattern who had never undergone orthognathic surgery (14 ♂, 6 ♀, age 25 ± 5 years).

The jaw muscles of the southern alligator lizard, Elgaria multicarinata, are used in prolonged mate-holding behavior, and also to catch fast prey. In both males and females, these muscles exhibit an unusual type of high endurance known as sustained force in which contractile force does not return to baseline between subsequent contractions. This phenomenon is assumed to facilitate the prolonged mate-holding observed in this species.

Background: One of the methods used in malocclusion treatment is the use of fixed appliances. Research conducted so far has revealed that changes in bite force occurring over the course of orthodontic treatment are directly related to the functional status of the masticatory muscles. It is therefore advisable to find out how the biomechanical parameters of the masseter muscles change after treatment with the application of fixed appliances.
