We outline two studies that collected exploratory data on the meaningful time approach and explore the notion of temporal triggers that emerge in the process of coping with traumatic loss. Qualitative data analysis was completed on data gathered from face-to-face interviews as well as open ended responses to an online survey. 35 themes and sub-codes were identified. 30 of these were replicated in both studies. Our data supported the notion of "markers in time" and identified three clear phases to these markers. Participants also noted the consequences of loss on their lives, and the influence of societal and religious approaches to bereavement on their process of coping. Results of this study support a cyclical approach to understanding coping with loss and provides clinicians working with bereaved individuals yet another tool to address the dynamic experience of bereavement.

Background: Loss of recognition memory has been hypothesized to be a potential behavioral marker of neurodegenerative disease given decreases in both recollection and familiarity reported in both MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) and AD (Alzheimer's Disease). Stage III CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) involves p-tau deposition in the medial temporal lobe, impacting memory. Decreases of both familiarity and recollection are promising potential markers of CTE related neurodegeneration following TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).

Background: Previous research demonstrates that stress and trauma are associated with poor health and increased dementia risk, but this is mostly based on studies of non-Hispanic Whites. This descriptive analysis delineated the war-related adversity and trauma in participants of the Vietnamese Insights into Cognitive Aging Program (VIP) study, a new cohort of cognitive aging in Vietnamese individuals in Northern California.
Method: VIP is a longitudinal study of 548 Vietnamese Americans aged 65+ years living in Northern California who are seen annually at either research site for three years.

Background: Physical frailty is characterized as functional degeneration across multiple systems, which has been proposed as a risk factor for various health outcomes. However, the correlation between physical frailty and brain health, including brain function, brain disorders, and brain structure, remains unclear.
Method: Here, 316905 participants from the UK Biobank were included in this prospective longitudinal study.

Background: Prior studies have found that traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with increased risk of both death and dementia in older adults including veterans. Clinically, it would be useful to be able to accurately predict the likelihood of these two outcomes for a given patient.
Method: Our study population included all individuals aged 55 years or older who received care from the Veterans Health Administration between 2002 and 2019, had a TBI diagnosis, had at least one post-TBI healthcare visit, and did not have a dementia diagnosis or medication before or up to 1 month after the TBI (n = 113,779).

Background: Approximately 40% of global dementia cases are associated with 12 modifiable risk factors (less education, hearing loss, hypertension, obesity, smoking, depression, social isolation, physical inactivity, diabetes, alcohol excess, air pollution, and traumatic brain injury). However, the number of people with these risk factors differs between populations. Latin American countries differ in socioeconomic and geographic aspects and, therefore, risk factors prevalence.
