is a medicinal plant used in complementary and alternative medicines. extracts contain many compounds with medical functions, of which the most critical is ginkgolide B (GB). The major role that GB plays is to function as an antagonist to the platelet-activating factor, which is one of the causes of thrombosis and cardiovascular diseases. Currently, GB is obtained mainly through extraction and purification from the leaves of ; however, the yield of GB is low. Alternatively, the immobilized cultivation of ginkgo calluses with biomaterial scaffolds and the addition of organic elicitors to activate the cell defense mechanisms were found to stimulate increases in GB production. The aim of this study was to use calluses for immobilized cultures with different elicitors to find a more suitable method of ginkgolide B production via a recycling process.

<b>Background and Objective:</b> Prolonged utilization of chemical fertilizers can harm the soil and disturb the equilibrium of nutrients, resulting in a decline in cherry tomato yield. To enhance the growth of cherry tomato plants, it is necessary to add organic chemicals. The research aimed to determine the best elicitor biosaka concentration to apply to evoke the plant growth of cherry tomatoes (<i>Solanum lycopersicum</i> L.

The biochemical and molecular mechanisms of plants: a review on insect herbivory.

Plant Signal Behav

December 2025

Food Security and Safety Focus Area, Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, North-West University, Mmabatho, South Africa.

Biochemical and molecular mechanisms have been essential mechanisms to reduce various insect attacks on plants. The biochemical methods are wide involving direct and indirect defenses. The defensive chemical substances are secreted effectively to the wound caused by the herbivores (insects and phytopathogens) on plants.

Essential oils (EOs) are mixtures of volatile organic compounds that mediate plant interactions and are also appreciated for their biological properties in aromatic plants. However, the study of EOs in wild plants with biological activity has been neglected. is a wild species with allelopathic and insecticide activities; however, the climate factors associated with EOs and their role in intra- and interspecific interactions are still unknown.

One assumed function of herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) is to attract natural enemies of the inducing herbivores. Field evidence for this is scarce. In addition, the assumption that elicitors in oral secretions that trigger the volatile emissions are essential for the attraction of natural enemies has not yet been demonstrated under field conditions.
