Transthyretin is produced in the retina and approximately one quarter of patients with variant transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRv) develop ocular involvement. Glaucoma is the most important ocular manifestation, leading to rapid loss of vision. The usefulness of glaucoma as a red flag for cardiac amyloidosis is unknown. On a national scale, we investigated the association between glaucoma and development of amyloidosis, compared to an age- and sex-matched population from the general population. The study population included 365,496 subjects (1:1 ratio). Adjusted Cox-models showed no significant association between glaucoma and future diagnosis of amyloidosis (hazard ratio: 1.16 [0.80-1.70], = .44). We conclude that while ocular involvement is a possible early manifestation of ATTRv, nationwide data suggest that glaucoma is probably not useful as a red flag for cardiac amyloidosis.

Precis: Current optical coherence tomography normative sample data may not represent diverse human optic nerve anatomy to accurately classify all individuals with true glaucomatous optic neuropathy.
Purpose: To compare optic nerve head (ONH) measurements between published values from an optical coherence tomography (OCT) normative database and a more diverse cohort of healthy individuals.
Patients And Methods: ONH parameters from healthy participants of the Michigan Screening and Intervention for Glaucoma and Eye Health through Telemedicine (MI-SIGHT) program and the Topcon Maestro-1 normative cohort were compared.

Purpose: To investigate outcomes after trabeculotomy in Japanese patients with primary congenital glaucoma (PCG), and to identify risk factors for multiple glaucoma surgery procedures.
Study Design: Retrospective observational study.
Methods: Surgical outcomes were investigated in Japanese patients with PCG who underwent their first glaucoma surgery at Hiroshima University Hospital between January, 2006, and December, 2021.

Colour vision defects (CVDs) can be both congenital and acquired, with acquired dyschromatopsia often associated with medication toxicity. This review explores various standardised colour vision tests used to detect these defects, including the Ishihara plate test, Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test, and anomaloscopes. These methods are evaluated for their effectiveness in diagnosing CVDs, particularly in acquired conditions.

Background: Human anterior lens capsules (ALCs) have great potential in the treatment of multiple eye diseases, including corneal ulcers, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and macular holes. ALCs are also regarded as promising scaffolds for various ocular cells. Here, we investigated different decellularization methods for removing lens epithelial cells (LECs) that adhered to ALCs.

Although silicone oil is used as an intraocular buffer in vitreoretinal surgical procedures, its use can cause complications, including glaucoma. This study highlights the importance of individualized approaches for the management of silicone oil-induced glaucoma. A 62-year-old man with a past medical history of retinal detachment and multiple ocular surgical procedurespresented with uncontrolled ocular pressure peaks after retinal detachment surgery using silicone oil as a buffer, which did not resolve after removal of the buffer.
