Radiology insights into Petersen's hernia complication of post Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Radiol Case Rep

March 2025

Department of Medical Imaging, Gold Coast University Hospital, 1 Hospital Blvd, Southport, Queensland 4215, Australia.

Following gastrojejunostomy in Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), the mesentery is susceptible to Petersen's hernia due to a mesenteric gap created between the alimentary limb, transverse mesocolon, and retroperitoneum. Although the Petersen's hernia is a rare complication, it has increased due to the widespread adoption of gastric bypass surgeries for weight management and gastric cancer resections. Computed tomography (CT) is commonly used to evaluate suspected cases.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibition therapies have provided remarkable results in numerous metastatic cancers, including mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) colorectal cancer (CRC). To evaluate the potential for PD-1 blockade therapy in a large population-based cohort, we analyzed the tumor microenvironment and reviewed the clinical data and actualized treatment of all dMMR CRCs in Central Finland province between 2000 and 2015.

Material And Methods: Of 1343 CRC patients, 171 dMMR tumors were identified through immunohistochemical screening.

Alimentary Tract Research Center, Clinical Sciences Research Institute, Imam Khomeini Hospital, Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, Ahvaz, Iran.

One of the foremost causes of global healthcare burden is cancer of the gastrointestinal tract. The medical records, lab results, radiographs, endoscopic images, tissue samples, and medical histories of patients with gastrointestinal malignancies provide an enormous amount of medical data. There are encouraging signs that the advent of artificial intelligence could enhance the treatment of gastrointestinal issues with this data.

The Effects of Graded Levels of Calorie Restriction XXI: impact of short term graded restriction on gene expression profiles of stomach and skeletal muscle.

J Gerontol A Biol Sci Med Sci

December 2024

Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Metabolic Health, Center for Energy Metabolism and Reproduction, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen China.

Calorie restriction (CR) extends lifespan and prevents several aging related diseases. During short-term restriction, we previously showed that lean tissues generally decrease in size, but the alimentary tract (especially the stomach) grows. To illuminate pathway alterations in these contrasting tissues we compared gene expression profiles (bulk RNAseq) of the skeletal muscle and stomach, in the same male C57BL/6J mice exposed to 3 months of graded CR (0-40%).
