Phage therapy is revitalized as an alternative to antibiotics therapy against antimicrobials resistant pathogens. Mycobacteriophages are genetically diverse viruses that can specifically infect Mycobacterium genus including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium smegmatis. Here, we isolated and annotated the genome of a mycobacteriophage Lang, a temperate mycobacteriophage isolated from the soil of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China, by using Mycolicibacterium smegmatis mc 155 as the host. It belongs to the Siphoviridae family of Caudovirales as determined by transmission electron microscopy. The morphological characteristics and certain biological properties of the phage were considered in detail. Phage Lang genomes is 41,487 bp in length with 66.85% GC content and encodes 60 putative open reading frames and belongs to the G1 sub-cluster. Genome annotation indicated that genes for structure proteins, assembly proteins, replications/transcription and lysis of the host are present in function clucters. The genome sequence of phage Lang is more than 95% similar to that of mycobacteriophage Grizzly and Sweets, differing in substitutions, insertions and deletions in Lang. One-step growth curve revealed that Lang has a latent period of 30 min and a outbreak period of 90 min. The short latent period and rapid outbreak mark the unique properties of phage Lang, which can be another potential source for combating M. tuberculosis.

Porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3) is endemic in swine worldwide and causes reproductive disorders, dermatitis and nephrotic syndrome, and multi-organ inflammation. PCV3 capsid protein (Cap) can self-assemble into virus-like particles (VLPs), and is an ideal candidate for vaccines and diagnostic reagents. In this study, the recombinant PCV3 Cap protein was successfully expressed in E.

More than 3 years into the global pandemic, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) remains a significant threat to public health. Immunities acquired from infection or current vaccines fail to provide long term protection against subsequent infections, mainly due to their fast-waning nature and the emergence of variants of concerns (VOCs) such as Omicron. To overcome these limitations, SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein receptor binding domain (RBD)-based epitopes are investigated as conjugates with a powerful carrier, the mutant bacteriophage Qβ (mQβ).

Sialyl Lewis (sLe ), also known as cancer antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), is a tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen. The overexpression of sLe on the surface of a variety of cancer cells makes it an attractive target for anticancer immunotherapy. However, sLe -based anticancer vaccines have been under-explored.

The possible active entry of aminoglycosides in bacterial cells has been debated since the development of this antibiotic family. Here we report the identification of their active transport mechanism in species. We combined genome-wide transcriptional analysis and fitness screens to identify alterations driven by treatment of with sub-minimum inhibitory concentrations (sub-MIC) of the aminoglycoside tobramycin.

A variety of prokaryotes produce a bacteriophage-like gene transfer agent (GTA), and the alphaproteobacterial RcGTA is a model GTA. Some environmental isolates of lack the ability to acquire genes transferred by the RcGTA (recipient capability). In this work, we investigated the reason why strain 37b4 lacks recipient capability.
