Introduction: Over a third of Irish people live rurally. However, only a fifth of Irish general practices are located in rural communities and longstanding issues such as distance to other health services, professional isolation, and recruitment and retention of rural healthcare professionals (HCPs) threaten rural general practice's sustainability. This ongoing study seeks to understand what it is like to provide care to Ireland's rural and remote populations.
Methods: This is a qualitative study, consisting of semi-structured interviews with GPs and practice nurses working in practices that serve rural populations across Ireland. Topic guides were developed after a literature review and a series of pilot interviews. Interviews are scheduled to be finished in February 2022.
Results: This study is ongoing so results are yet to be finalised. Initial key themes include a great level of professional satisfaction that GPs and practice nurses experience from caring for entire families from the 'cradle to grave' and from the complex issues they face in practice. A rural general practice acts as the medical port-of-call for patients, with both practice nurses and GPs having experiences with emergency and pre-hospital medicine. A key difficulty identified is access to secondary and tertiary care services, with distance to services and high demand as the main barriers.
Discussion: Working in rural general practice gives HCPs great professional satisfaction but access to other health services remains a challenge. Final conclusions may be compared with other delegates' experiences.

Background: The increasing availability of electronic health system data and remotely-sensed environmental variables has led to the emergence of statistical models capable of producing malaria forecasts. Many of these models have been operationalized into malaria early warning systems (MEWSs), which provide predictions of malaria dynamics several months in advance at national and regional levels. However, MEWSs rarely produce predictions at the village-level, the operational scale of community health systems and the first point of contact for the majority of rural populations in malaria-endemic countries.

Though reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) to Cr(III) by dissolved organic matter (DOM) is critical for the remediation of polluted soils, the effects of DOM chemodiversity and underlying mechanisms are not fully elucidated yet. Here, Cr(VI) reduction and immobilization mediated by microbial byproduct (MBP)- and humic acid (HA)-like components in (hot) water-soluble organic matter (WSOM), (H)WSOM, from four soil samples in tropical and subtropical regions of China were investigated. It demonstrates that Cr(VI) reduction capacity decreases in the order WSOM > HWSOM and MBP-enriched DOM > HA-enriched DOM due to the higher contents of low molecular weight saturated compounds and CHO molecules in the former.

Objective: To quantify treatment preferences for food allergy management options (oral immunotherapy, biologic therapy, and allergen avoidance), overall and by sociodemographic strata.
Methods: A US general population (≥13 years) discrete choice experiment (DCE) conducted comprised of 12 treatment-feature focused DCE choice sets; the Intolerance of Uncertainty─12 Scale (IUS-12); and clinical/demographic questions. Conditional logistic regression analyses were conducted overall and by age, income, urbanization, educational attainment, food and other sociodemographic factors, and presented as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs).
