Magnetization switching is the most important operation in spintronic devices. In modern nonvolatile magnetic random-access memory (MRAM), it is usually realized by spin-transfer torque (STT) or spin-orbit torque (SOT). However, both STT and SOT MRAM require current to drive magnetization switching, which will cause Joule heating. Here, we report an alternative mechanism, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) torque, that can realize magnetization switching fully controlled by voltage pulses. We find that a consequential voltage-controlled reversal of DMI chirality in multiferroics can lead to continued expansion of a skyrmion thanks to the DMI torque. Enough DMI torque will eventually make the skyrmion burst into a quasiuniform ferromagnetic state with reversed magnetization, thus realizing the switching of a perpendicular magnet. The discovery is demonstrated in two-dimensional multiferroics, CuCrP_{2}Se_{6} and CrN, using first-principles calculations and micromagnetic simulations. As an example, we applied the DMI torque for simulating leaky-integrate-fire functionality of biological neurons. Our discovery of DMI torque switching of perpendicular magnetization provides tremendous potential toward magnetic-field-free and current-free spintronic devices, and neuromorphic computing as well.

Research on current-induced domain wall (DW) motion in heavy metal/ferromagnet structures is crucial for advancing memory, logic, and computing devices. Here, we demonstrate that adjusting the angle between the DW conduit and the current direction provides an additional degree of control over the current-induced DW motion. A DW conduit with a 45° section relative to the current direction enables asymmetrical DW behavior: for one DW polarity, motion proceeds freely, while for the opposite polarity, motion is impeded or even blocked in the 45° zone, depending on the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction strength.

Leizhou goats are famous for their delicious meat but have inferior growth performance. There is little information on rumen-protected fat (RPF) from the Leizhou goat. Hence, we observed the effects of RPF on growth, fecal short-chain fatty acids, and bacteria community with respect to Leizhou goats.

After decades of efforts, some fundamental physics for electrical switching of magnetization is still missing. Here, we report the discovery of the long-range intralayer Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) effect, which is the chiral coupling of orthogonal magnetic domains within the same magnetic layer via the mediation of an adjacent heavy metal layer. The effective magnetic field of the long-range intralayer DMI on the perpendicular magnetization is out-of-plane and varies with the interfacial DMI constant, the applied in-plane magnetic fields, and the magnetic anisotropy distribution.

For energy-efficient magnetic memories, switching of perpendicular magnetization by spin-orbit torque (SOT) appears to be a promising solution. This SOT switching requires the assistance of an in-plane magnetic field to break the symmetry. Here, we demonstrate the field-free SOT switching of a perpendicularly magnetized thulium iron garnet (TmFeO, TmIG).

Thin films of ferrimagnetic iron garnets can exhibit useful magnetic properties, including perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and high domain wall velocities. In particular, bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet (BiYIG) films grown on garnet substrates have a low Gilbert damping but zero Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), whereas thulium iron garnet (TmIG) films have higher damping but a nonzero DMI. We report the damping and DMI of thulium-substituted BiYIG (BiYTmIG) and TmIG|BiYIG bilayer thin films deposited on (111) substituted gadolinium gallium garnet and neodymium gallium garnet (NGG) substrates.
