Development of efficient catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) remains challenging in PEM dehumidifier or vapor electrolyzer. This study developed novel coaxial IrO@SbSnO nanofiber (NF) catalysts by electrospinning using a dual-channel needle. This method ensures the fibrous structure and the uniform loading of Ir oxide on the support of antimony tin oxide (ATO). IrO@SbSnO nanoparticles were synthesized for comparison. Characterizations showed that the active area and charge transfer resistance of NF was 1.47 times and 17.72% of that of commercial ones, respectively. The overpotential of NF at 10 mA·cm was 359 mV, much smaller than that of commercial IrO (418 mV). In addition, the reaction overpotential of NF increased by only 38 mV after 1000 cyclic voltammetry cycles, indicating good electrochemical stability. To explore the enhancement mechanism, first-principles calculations were conducted for theoretically simulating the hetero-structures. Based on d-band theory, the structure formed between ATO and IrO can effectively weaken the adsorption of oxygen intermediates on the catalyst surface, which reduces the OER energy barrier from 1.705 to 1.632 eV, causing an over 15% decrease of overpotential after loading on ATO. As a practical attempt, we applied the new catalysts in real PEM assembly for air dehumidification and found that the performance was improved by about 2 times compared with that using commercial catalysts. This study provides a research direction for the design of one-dimensional NF catalysts and their using in PEM applications.

Mismatched electron and proton transport rates impede the manifestation of effective performance of the electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER), thereby limiting its industrial applications. Inspired by the natural protein cluster in PS-II, different organic-inorganic hybrid electrocatalysts were synthesized via a hydrothermal method. -Toluidine (PT), benzoic acid (BA), and -aminobenzoic acid (PABA) were successfully intercalated into NiFe-LDH.

The amount of incorporation of linear alcohols and ethers in HSiWO·6HO (HSiW·6HO, 50 wt %) supported on silica (SiO) was estimated by a conventional volumetric method and infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and the state of involved molecules was elucidated. First, the attribution of the key IR band at 2200 cm, which was observed for the water of crystallization of HSiW·6HO, to HO species (protons) was verified by coincident observation of thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and IR spectroscopy during thermal treatment in addition to the isotope exchange with DO. The 2200 cm band was gradually decreased in intensity by increasing the amount of adsorption of pyridine and was totally consumed at saturation, while the volumetric method provided the accurate number of included pyridine molecules.

Tailoring rhodium-based metal-organic layers for parahydrogen-induced polarization: achieving 20% polarization of H in liquid phase.

Heterogeneous catalysts for parahydrogen-induced polarization (HET-PHIP) would be useful for producing highly sensitive contrasting agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the liquid phase, as they can be removed by simple filtration. Although homogeneous hydrogenation catalysts are highly efficient for PHIP, their sensitivity decreases when anchored on porous supports due to slow substrate diffusion to the active sites and rapid depolarization within the channels. To address this challenge, we explored 2D metal-organic layers (MOLs) as supports for active Rh complexes with diverse phosphine ligands and tunable hydrogenation activities, taking advantage of the accessible active sites and chemical adaptability of the MOLs.

The research and development of the green synthesis route of chemicals has become the focus of research in academia and industry. At present, the highly efficient oxidation of ethanol to acetaldehyde over non-precious metal catalysts under mild conditions is most promising, but remains a big challenge. Herein, the Mo-Sn oxide catalyst was designed to successfully realize low-temperature oxidation of ethanol to acetaldehyde, achieving an acetaldehyde selectivity of 89.
