AI Article Synopsis

  • The study investigates the cytotoxic effects of ethanol extract from the aerial parts of a plant, traditionally used in Brazil for treating diseases, on gastric adenocarcinoma cells (AGS), as well as its chemical composition.
  • Hexane and aqueous fractions of the extract displayed higher cytotoxicity against AGS cells, indicating potential effectiveness in cancer treatment.
  • Key compounds identified include triterpenes like euphol and friedelin in the hexane fraction, and ellagic acid as the main phenolic compound in the aqueous extract, which are believed to contribute to the extract's antiproliferative effects against cancer cells.

Article Abstract

Ethanol extract from the aerial parts of L. as well as the latex of the plant suspended in water are used by the Brazilian population for the treatment of various diseases, including cancer. The purposes of this study were to determine if the ethanol extract is effective as cytotoxic agent against gastric adenocarcinoma cells (AGS) and its chemical composition by GC-MS, ESI-(-)-FT-ICR MS and (-)-ESI-LTQ-MS/MS. The results were compared with that of latex previously described by us. Hexane and aqueous fractions showed higher cytotoxicity on AGS cells. Nine triterpene compounds were detected by GC-MS in hexane fraction, including euphol and friedelin, while ellagic acid was identified as main phenolic compound in aqueous extract. Therefore, the greater cytotoxic activity of the ethanol extract of the aerial parts of for gastric cancer, when compared to latex, seems to originate from the antiproliferative effects of ellagic acid and triterpenes.

Quaternary ammonium salts (QAs) are a class of highly active compounds widely used in medicine and agriculture. However, many QAs lack a conjugated system, making their recognition and quantitation challenging. Stachydrine is a representative unconjugated QA with a high content in Houtt.

In this study, screening of the collected 70 Salvia nemorosa L. populations from 54 habitats from West Azerbaijan province, Iran was evaluated by analyzing the content of phytochemical compounds, antioxidant activity, and UHPLC-HRMS profiling in different populations. The aerial parts of the plants were analyzed based on total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid (TFC), total tannin (TTC), ascorbic acid (AAC), chlorophylls (Cla, and Clb), total carotenoid (TCC), β-carotene, antioxidant activity (by DPPH and FRAP assays), and 40 polyphenolic compounds by UHPLC-HRMS (phenolic acids, flavonoids and fatty acyl glicosides).

Distributed coordinated motion control of multiple UAVs oriented to optimization of air-ground relay network.

A novel adaptive model-based motion control method for multi-UAV communication relay is proposed, which aims at improving the networks connectivity and the communications performance among a fleet of ground unmanned vehicles. The method addresses the challenge of relay UAVs motion control through joint consideration with unknown multi-user mobility, environmental effects on channel characteristics, unavailable angle-of-arrival data of received signals, and coordination among multiple UAVs. The method consists of two parts: (1) Network connectivity is constructed and communication performance index is defined using the minimum spanning tree in graph theory, which considers both the communication link between ground node and UAV, and the communication link between ground nodes.
