Published: March 2023

Unlabelled: In our series of surgical pulmonary endarterectomies done for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, we have incorporated the principle of hydrodissection with the aid of a carbon dioxide (CO) mist blower which is routinely used for off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) surgeries. This added method of endarterectomy will help to achieve optimum clearance of thrombic load with basic cardiac surgical instruments.

A 40-year-old woman presented with chronic left anterior shoulder, upper arm, and axillary pain following a routine mammogram 3 years prior. Despite multiple interventions, her pain persisted significantly affecting her quality of life. Ultrasound examination revealed fascicular edema in the medial brachial cutaneous nerve (MBCN), intercostobrachial cutaneous nerve (ICBN), and a positive sono-Tinel.

A novel technique for the single-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (SLPEC) of paediatric isolated giant inguinal hernias using double-modified hernia needles.

Department of Urology, Fujian Children's Hospital (Fujian Branch of Shanghai Children's Medical Center), College of Clinical Medicine for Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics, Fujian Medical University, No. 966 Hengyu Road, Fuzhou, 350000, China.

The objective was to explore the efficacy of single-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure using double-modified hernia needles with hydrodissection (SLPEC group) and two-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (TLPEC group) for the treatment of giant indirect inguinal hernias in children. We performed a retrospective review of all children with giant indirect inguinal hernias (inner ring orifice diameter ≥ 1.5 cm) who underwent laparoscopic high ligation of the hernia sac at FuJian Children's Hospital from January 2019 to December 2021.

Chronic pain is a complex condition that often poses diagnostic and management challenges due to its multifactorial etiology. This case report describes a 49-year-old pastor who presented with a three-year history of chronic pain affecting multiple sites, including the neck, bilateral shoulders, thoracic region, lower back, and bilateral knees. Additionally, he experienced shortness of breath on mild exertion, which adversely affected his ability to converse and speak publicly.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses various causes of non-traumatic heel pain, primarily focusing on plantar fasciitis and the lesser-known condition related to Baxter's nerve entrapment, which can present similarly.
  • A case study of a 57-year-old female reveals that chronic heel pain was linked to changes in the abductor digiti minimi muscle due to Baxter neuropathy, and she found relief from a local steroid injection.
  • The conclusion emphasizes that Baxter's nerve impingement may often be overlooked in heel pain assessments, but MRI can help identify this condition by showing muscle denervation effects.

Ultrasound-guided perineural hydrodissection (HD) is a novel technique that has been found to be effective in providing mechanical release of perineural adhesions and decompression of the nerve, reducing inflammation and edema and restoring its physiological function. It has a significant impact on chronic neuropathic pain (20 ± 4 weeks with VAS < 5 or VAS diminished by 2 points after the procedure). Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common entrapment mononeuropathy, and its distribution is typically innervated by the median nerve.
