Characterization of tumor epigenetic aberrations is integral to understanding the mechanisms of tumorigenesis and provide diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive information of high clinical relevance. Among the different tumor-associated epigenetic signatures, 5 methyl-cytosine (5mC) and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) are the two most well-characterized DNA methylation alterations linked to cancer pathogenesis. 5hmC has a tissue-specific distribution and its abundance is subjected to changes in tumor DNA, making it a promising biomarker.

Anaemia is a prevalent complication in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) undergoing haemodialysis. This study evaluates the accuracy of the Alio SmartPatchâ„¢, a non-invasive remote monitoring device, in measuring haemoglobin (Hb) and haematocrit (Hct) levels in haemodialysis patients by comparing its results with standard blood-based laboratory methods. The results from 116 patients across multiple sites in the USA and the Kingdom of Jordan show that SmartPatch measurements align closely with standard blood-based laboratory methods, meeting clinically acceptable limits of agreement.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) are small, non-coding RNAs that play a crucial role in gene regulation, making them potential biomarkers for various diseases. In the field of veterinary medicine, there is a growing interest in exploring the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of miRNAs in kidney diseases affecting dogs and cats. This review focuses on the use of urinary miRNAs as biomarkers for chronic kidney disease (CKD) in these companion animals.

Urinary proteomics is emerging as a potent tool for detecting sensitive and non-invasive biomarkers. At present, the comparability of urinary proteomics data across diverse liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) platforms remains an area that requires investigation. In this study, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of urinary proteome across multiple LC-MS platforms.
