There has been an increasing interest in the consumption of halophytes as a healthy food in the last few years. is a seasonal Mediterranean halophyte with an interesting profile of bioactive compounds, including more than 60 identified polyphenols with a broad range of biological activities. Accumulating evidence supports the role of dietary polyphenols in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, such as stroke. Stroke is the second cause of death worldwide and it is estimated that a substantial proportion of stroke incidence and recurrence may be prevented by healthier dietary patterns. Here, we have grouped the phenolic acids and flavonoids identified in and reviewed their potential protective effect on brain ischemia, which are mostly related to the reduction of oxidative stress and inflammation, the inhibition of cell death pathways and their role in the preservation of the vascular function. Despite the fact that most of these compounds have been reported to be neuroprotective through multiple mechanisms, human studies are still scarce. Given the safe profile of polyphenols identified in this halophyte plant could be considered as a source of bioactive compounds for the nutraceutical industry.

Background: Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is a primary contributor to death after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), with significant incidence. Therefore, early determination of the risk of DCI is an urgent need. Machine learning (ML) has received much attention in clinical practice.

Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a severe neurological injury during infancy, often resulting in long-term cognitive deficits. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of Edaravone (EDA), a free radical scavenger, and elucidate the potential role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in mediating these effects in neonatal HIE rats. Using the Rice-Vannucci model, HIE was induced in neonatal rats, followed by immediate administration of EDA after the hypoxic-ischemic insult.

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Most cases of stroke are ischemic and result from the occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA). Current pharmacological approaches for the treatment of ischemic stroke are limited; therefore, novel therapies providing effective neuroprotection against ischemic injury following stroke are urgently needed.

Acute stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability in the world. Ischemic stroke (IS) the most common type of stroke. In acute cerebral ischemia, damage to the brain tissue is complex and includes blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, activation of intracellular and extracellular signaling pathways, expression of neurotoxic agents, excitotoxicity, and apoptosis.

Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy CADASIL) is a rare inherited disorder in which thickening of the walls of small and medium-sized blood vessels blocks blood flow to the brain. Diagnosis of CADASIL is based on clinical presentation, neuroimaging findings, and genetic predisposition. This disease is uncommon in children; typically, symptoms manifest in individuals between the ages of 20 and 40, though some may exhibit symptoms later in life.
