Dense and mesoporous FePd nanowires (NWs) with 45 to 60 at.% Pd content were successfully fabricated by template- and micelle-assisted pulsed potentiostatic electrodeposition using nanoporous anodic alumina and polycarbonate templates of varying pore sizes. An FePd electrolyte was utilized for obtaining dense NWs while a block copolymer, P-123, was added to this electrolyte as the micelle-forming surfactant to produce mesoporous NWs. The structural and magnetic properties of the NWs were investigated by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The as-prepared NWs were single phase with a face-centered cubic structure exhibiting 3.1 µm to 7.1 µm of length. Mesoporous NWs revealed a core-shell structure where the porosity was only witnessed in the internal volume of the NW while the outer surface remained non-porous. Magnetic measurements revealed that the samples displayed a soft ferromagnetic behavior that depended on the shape anisotropy and the interwire dipolar interactions. The mesoporous core and dense shell structure of the NWs were seen to be slightly affecting the magnetic properties. Moreover, mesoporous NWs performed excellently as SERS substrates for the detection of 4,4'-bipyridine, showing a low detection limit of 10 M. The signal enhancement can be attributed to the mesoporous morphology as well as the close proximity of the embedded NWs being conducive to localized surface plasmon resonance.

Needle-like CoO nanowires have been successfully synthesized by a facile hydrothermal process on an electrospun carbon nanofibers substrate. The as-prepared sample mesoporous CoO nanowires aligned vertically on the surface of carbon nanofibers and cross-linked with each other, producing loosely porous nanostructures. These hybrid composite electrodes exhibit a high specific capacitance of 1068.

Antimony nanorods (SbNRs) anchored to vertically aligned SiNWs serve as cosensitizers and enhance the light absorption of NWs, and their favorably positioned valence band (VB) coupled with their p-type semiconducting nature allows fast hole extraction from SiNWs. Photocorrosion of SiNWs is effectively prevented by a monolayer of N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]aniline (TMSPA). Upon assembling a quasi-solid-state solar cell with a SbNRs@TMSPA@SiNW photoanode, a triiodide-iodide (I /I) redox couple-based gel encompassing dispersed p-type cuprous oxide nanocubes (CuO NCs) as the hole transport material.

A hybrid catalyst with integrated single-atom Ni and nanoscale Cu catalytic components is reported to enhance the C-C coupling and ethylene (CH) production efficiency in the electrocatalytic CO reduction reaction (eCORR). The single-atom Ni anchored on high-surface-area ordered mesoporous carbon enables high-rate and selective conversion of CO to CO in a wide potential range, which complements the subsequent CO enrichment on Cu nanowires (NWs) for the C-C coupling to CH. In situ surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRAS) confirms the substantially improved CO enrichment on Cu, once the incorporation of single-atom Ni occurs.

High surface area nickel oxide nanowires (NiO NWs), Fe-doped NiO NWs and-FeO/Fe-doped NiO NWs were synthesized with nanocasting pathway, and then the morphology, microstructure and components of all samples were characterized with XRD, TEM, EDS, UV-vis spectra and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms. Owing to the uniform mesoporous template, all samples with the same diameter exhibit the similar mesoporous-structures. The loaded-FeOnanoparticles should exist in mesoporous channels between Fe-doped NiO NWs to form heterogeneous contact at the interface of n-type-FeOnanoparticles and p-type NiO NWs.
