The shielding and spectroscopic properties of Pr and Pr/Ho-codoped tellurite glass were investigated. The intensity parameters (Ω2 = 3.24-, Ω4 = 1.64-, Ω6 = 1.10 × 10 cm) as well as the radiative lifetimes of F + S and I excited states of Ho ions were equal to 301 μs and 3.0 μs, respectively. The former value appears to be much higher than that obtained from the lifetime measurement, indicating the presence of various energy transfer processes. The NIR spectrum of Pr/Ho-co-doped tellurite glass is dominated by strong Ho: I emission at around 1200 nm, being the result of the energy transfer from Pr to Ho ions. The shielding effectiveness of the prepared glasses showed good performance against high-energy photons. These findings suggest that the prepared glasses could be used in laser technology such as photodynamic therapy (PDT) treatment procedures and as shielding for radiation protection.

Ionizing radiation from natural and many synthetic sources is a remarkable tool in many scientific, production, quality control, food preservation, medical, security, and other technological processes. The need to protect humans (public and personnel), gadgets, the environment, and animals from the harmful effects of radiation, while maintaining and expanding the scope of application has made radiation protection an important topic to discuss. Among the methods and materials available for radiation control, shielding and the use of glass shields are the most effective and attractive methods and materials, respectively.

Improving the broadband luminescent properties in ∼2 μm band has always been a serious challenge. This paper proposed a Tm, Ho and Er doped combination in tellurite glass, which was synthesized through melt-quenching and characterized by a series of physical and spectral tests. Firstly, tellurite glass of Tm-Ho co-doping produced a ∼2 μm broadband luminescence ranging from 1570 to 2200 nm with FWHM (full width at half maximum) of 379 nm under 808 nm pumping.

Er-doped glasses and fibers with broadband near infrared (NIR) emission have been widely applied in EDFA. Limited by optical gain band of Er-doped glasses and fibers, it was hardly meet to the demands of broadband amplification in the C + L band. In this work, six glass matrixes were employed for discussing the influence of glass matrix on the Stark splitting of Er and the wavelength of laser output and amplification.

In this paper, we provide a new experimental insight into the lasing process in the erbium-doped tellurite glass fiber at high diode-pump powers and pumping pulse durations. It is shown that lasing occurs at two wavelengths. Initially, at a fixed wavelength of 2.
