To reveal the pressure effects on BiOX semiconductors, we performed in-situ Raman spectroscopy and electrical transport measurements on BiOI up to 26.1 GPa and 19.2 GPa. BiOI showed good structural stability, while the electron conduction characteristics maintained dominance throughout the pressure range. The influence of grain boundary conduction disappeared at pressures above 9.2 GPa. With pressure elevation, the pressure-induced lattice fragmentation and grain refinement introduced a large number of relevant levels in the energy gap and resulted in a significant increase in the conductivity of BiOI under compression. The conductivity increased by 10 at 19.2 GPa from the initial value and maintained an increase of 10 after depressurization until ambient conditions were attained. At the same time, the space charge polarization of the crystal interface layer became weaker with pressure elevation resulting in a decrease in the relative permittivity of BiOI. The calculation results of the complex permittivity showed that the frequency of orientation polarization response decreases with pressure elevation, and the complex permittivity becomes constant in the high-frequency region. Our work proves that pressure could significantly increase the carrier concentration and mobility, thus effectively improving the conductivity of BiOX semiconductors.

Background: Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a stable compound in human blood that covalently binds the N-terminal valine residue of the β-chain in hemoglobin A to the free aldehyde group of glucose. It can reflect the average blood glucose level of patients in the past 2 - 3 months. Therefore, the accuracy of HbA1c detection results is of great significance for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of diabetes.

The dynamic response of heterogeneous catalytic materials to their environment opens a wide variety of possible surface states which may have increased catalytic activity. In this work, we find that it is possible to generate a surface state with increased catalytic activity over metallic 2nm Pt nanoparticles by performing a thermal treatment of the CO*-covered Pt catalyst. This state is characterised by its ability to oxidise CO to CO2 at room temperature.

Background: We performed a prespecified subgroup analysis of the CATIS-2 trial (China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke II) to compare the effect of early versus delayed antihypertensive treatment on death and disability in patients with and without medical history of hypertension.
Methods: CATIS-2 is a multicenter randomized clinical trial conducted in 106 hospitals in China. The trial randomized 4810 patients with acute ischemic stroke within 24 to 48 hours of symptom onset and elevated systolic blood pressure between 140 and <220 mm Hg to receive antihypertensive treatment immediately after randomization or to discontinue antihypertensive medications for 7 days and then receive treatment on day 8.

Objective: To describe the characteristics of patients diagnosed with acute heart failure (AHF) in emergency departments (EDs) who develop cardiogenic shock (CS) not associated with ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (STACS).
Methods: Information for patients diagnosed with AHF in 23 Spanish EDs and registered between 2009 and 2019 were included for analysis if the patients developed symptoms consistent with CS. We described baseline clinical characteristics related to cardiac decompensation and CS, as well as 30-day mortality.

Spontaneous cervical swelling syndrome is an uncommon clinical syndrome characterized by the sudden onset of swelling in the cervical region with no identifiable cause. A 47-year-old woman with a history of Iron Deficiency Anemia presented to the emergency department (ED) complaining of an acute left neck and upper chest swelling and pressure sensation in her neck. The swelling started suddenly and was growing rapidly over several hours.
