Wei Zhang bis & J.W.Shao, a new species from Hunan Province, China, is described. Its leaf morphology is similar to the complex and flower morphology similar to , but it can be distinguished from the former by the black pollen sac, corolla lobes apex obviously emarginate and can be differed from the latter by cotyledon triangular obovate, plants densely covered with glandular hairs and special habitat (karst caves). The whole plastid genome of this new species is 151, 601-151, 630 bp in length. Based on the whole plastid genome sequences, phylogenetic trees revealed that the new species did not genetically relate to the above two mentioned morphologically similar species, but it was closely related to . Currently, only three populations were discovered within a small distribution area, thus, it is preliminarily considered as Vulnerable (VU) according to criteria of the IUCN Red List.

Viruses are the most abundant biological entities on Earth, and they play a critical role in the environment and biosphere where they regulate microbial populations and contribute to nutrient cycling. Environmental viruses have been the most studied in the ocean, but viral investigations have now spread to other environments. Here, viral communities were characterized in four cave pools in Carlsbad Caverns National Park to test the hypotheses that (i) viral abundance is ten-fold higher than prokaryotic cell abundance in cavern pools, (ii) cavern pools contain novel viral sequences, and (iii) viral communities in pools from developed portions of the cave are distinct from those of pools in undeveloped parts of the same cave.

In karst landscapes, where sustainable water management is increasingly challenged by drought-induced water scarcity, the adoption of road-based rainwater harvesting (RBWH) systems has emerged as a promising solution for improving water accessibility. Despite the growing implementation of such systems, the effectiveness of many RBWH projects in karst terrains remains suboptimal due to an inadequate understanding of runoff generation mechanisms associated with hilly road networks. This study focuses on quantifying the contributions of intercepted surface runoff (SR) and soil-epikarst lateral flow (SEF) from a newly exposed road-cut slope in a dolomite hillslope, with data collected across 156 rainfall events from May 2019 to May 2022.
